I've been showing the progression on my sidebar. I was waiting for some things to dry, so I started to actually paint on it and this is how I left it this afternoon when I had to quit.
This other little picture is a page in a book I started today.
Jo at mystory had a post a while back about a 'quiet book 'she worked in and I haven't been able to put that idea out of my mind. So if the thought persists, then perhaps action is the next step. I found the idea very peaceful. Like all work in these kinds of books/journals, it's just easy playing. An old drawing now surrounded by bits and pieces of my world now. Happy first day of Spring everyone. Have a fabulous weekend!
UPDATE: 03/21/09
I worked on the painting more today and here is how I left it today.
It has to dry and then I have to live with it for awhile before I do the finishing stuff!
UPDATE; 03/22/09
I finished this piece today - I will live with it now until I don't want to do anything else to it.

And a Happy Spring day to you! You are looking wonderful in your photo with camera!
I so like the "quiet book" as a way to truly quiet down and have a place to move art about in personal silence.
Back in school we carried small sketchbooks and captured the things we saw in quick line drawings .. but when I got a filofax in the 80s I began keeping appts along with recipts and notes and sketches it became a sort of version of a blog... now I wonder where it is, because I never throw anything away.
Love this idea AND the brush wiper canvas
I hope it warmer there than here .. 31 this morning
Happy spring indeed.
Such paintings - spring growth is here!
Happy weekend.
Hi Jeane,
I like where your brush cleaning canvas is up to at the moment and your super new profile pic and new header. A new look for Spring!
The bird on your notebook is a captivating image- love the wonderful messiness going on there-there's a tenderness about it somehow.
The evolution of your brush cleaning piece is fabulous. Great stuff, Jeanne.
Really like your current efforts..
I think that Spring has made you freer!
Colors of a garden, beautiful!
Though everything in this post appeals to me, the book page really talks to me. Jo's post about her quiet book has also stayed in my mind. Such a great idea. Happy Spring day to you, Jeane and Happy Autumn to me. Today is the most glorious Autumn day!
I love it all, Jeane.
New photo, the brushed upon canvas, the quiet book: they all say “Jeane”. I find your creativity awesome and captivating. Happy Spring.
Happy spring to you, Jeane! Love your new header and the wonderful brush cleaning canvas!
good morning Mary Ann - thanks so much - it was definitely time for a new profile pic and don't you just love the idea of a quiet book? - the operative word being 'quiet'!
Daryl, alas, it was frost on the ground this morning, so still pretty cold here also - I guess our sketch books have become our digital cameras! - I snap now instead of sketch - I still carry a sketch book, but alas, it usually ends up holding reminders - now even phone numbers go into my cell phone - different times.
Happy Spring to you also Elizabeth - it feels good doesn't it - am loving your pictures of your trip to the far side of the world!
Derrick, you're so right - a new look for spring - the air even smells different!
oooo Shayla - you see inside me - birds are my heart - I love the creatures - had to start a new brush cleaning canvas now that I have committed to this one! ha!
good morning Lyn - spring free, theatre free, blank squares on my calendar free! - feels very good indeed!
Robyn! Happy Autumn to you! - isn't Jo's 'quiet book' just the best idea? - I know so many are journal keepers, but for me, they always end up dismanteled for other things, but this appealed to me and a good practice to start.
Hi Leslie, Happy Spring to you also - and thanks! you are such a positive voice!
good morning Black & White - Happy Spring to you also! was just over to your new post and OMG! gorgeous!
Happy Spring Jeane! Blue skies, fluffy clouds and gleeful giraffe gambolling around the countryside from now on is my hope for the next few weeks!
I like the book page, and love the idea of a quiet book!
Love this post - there's a lovely whoosh to it - just like spring, I guess.
Wow, I love these paintings. I'm inspired to do some "brush cleaning" paintings of my own. wow wow wow
Jeane, It is so exciting to watch how your work progresses. You make me want to try this, but I am scared...
I love the way your art is so true to your spirit. This is what I am learning to do. It is such a wonderful journey, yes? roxanne
These are wonderful! So much energy and tension. Really draw one in.
Bravo!
Jeane your journal page is wonderful (I can feel the peace and tranquility). The sketch of the bird is so beautiful.
Loving the brush cleaning canvas too.
Hey Jeane...I feel like I have been somewhere else for the last few weeks! Not sure where! So wonderful to get here though and see this great stuff you are doing!
Love it all, the canvas & the "quiet page" (glad I planted a seed)
Just love where you take things Jeane...Jo xx
good morning Raph! - happy spring to you also - the quiet book is very nice - I'm glad I started it.
woosh! fabulous, Annie - I love that! that's what it feels like - something like I've been holding my breath for the last couple of months and now I can breath again!
Hey Judy! - it's always a good way to create an underpainting! don't you think? hate wasting paint....
Yes! Roxanne! a wonderful journey! and fear is your best friend! didn't you know that? - that's what we get to conquer and it pushes us to the other side of something better! I'm liking where this painting is right now,but it's not finished and I'm afraid I will not make the right choices and muck it up, but too bad! I'll embrace the fear and just go for it - sometimes I make it and sometimes I don't, but always the journey...
Hi Jacky - thanks so much - what I love is the book you made on your art retreat! wowsier!
hello Jo - could you have been in that place where we go after a huge push and then the glow of success and then the wander zone? or maybe someplace else! I did it! I started the quiet book - I love it - a place to start the work - thanks so much for the idea....it is going to serve me well.xxo
Your painting leaves me speechless. It is simply beyond words beautiful, Jean.
Love the quiet book idea too.
Visiting here is the highlight of my day : )
your work has a looser quality to it..
something I crave.. is it the messing about in your book?
Hi Mary Ann - thank you so much! It feels good to be working in the abstract again - I've been on another path for a few years and pretty much ran that course for now - abstract is always my starting point.....
Hey Grrl - like I told Mary Ann, I've been on another path for a few years and am now back to working abstract again - I always come back to this after veering off for awhile - I will eventually work through this and veer again - for right now, I'm in the right place...the little book is just very peaceful and a good practice for me....
Wow, I love the fininshed painting! How cool it started as a brush 'blotter'. Truely lovely. Great photo of the tree tops and full moon :)
Mr. Gracie and Mrs. Peevie are so pretty!
The bit you've used as your header is just plain "wow".
Happy Spring to you, as well, Jeane!
Fabulous piece Jeane. I really love how you worked it. I would definitely agree that it is well baked.
The last photograph reminds me so much of a lady listening to a seashell. Probably nothing like what you intended, but there you go. It's lovely.
Hi Brenda! - thanks so much - the night shot was out our back door when the moon was coming up over our back woods - I'm getting better taking pictures at night....
Hi Willow - Happy Spring to you too! I'm just crazy for Mr. Gracie and Mrs. Peevey - never thought I'd be a bird person - the header right now is a detail of a painting.....
hello Katherine! - thanks so much - well guess what!, the painting lived in the house one night and it really bothered me, so I worked on it again today and it's totally different! ha! - I'm pathetic....
LOL, Pamela - I truly never intend anything - this kind of painting for me is more about shapes, balance, color, texture,etc.....but I'm glad you like it and like I just told Katherine, it's a totally different painting now....
The new addition on the sidebar is quite wonderful...I love the whiteish section and the way it pulls with the amazing burnt gold color...!
i am a huge fan of this abstract work you're doing, the progression from you being attracted to abstractions you photo ed earlier in the year... too, love also the drawings and collage in your quiet book.
look forward to more.
This is painting with abandon and freedom, love it, so much character and appeal.
Hi Mary Ann - yes, the sidebar painting is coming right along - I'm having fun with it!
mansuetude, Hi! you're back! - yes, I'm back to the abstract - it's always my starting point when I've finished a phase - how observant you are that I was being pulled back - all the shapes I was attracted to were definitely just that! so glad you stopped by - will have to visit you in the morning when I have more energy because I know you will have a fully loaded post!
thanks Ro - yes, it is exactly what you say and I'm loving it! thanks for stopping by!
Happy spring, love the journal page with the bird!
