criteria......

No, this is not another post about my great adventure in OILs! Well, thank god! No, this is about art in my home (so maybe a glimpse of a bit of oil).  I realized many years ago that a criteria for art in my home? is the 'bored with it' thingy.  As I was sitting drinking my coffee this morning, I realized I have looked at the same painting across from me for at least a year.  It has been in other parts of the house for the past 5 years or so, but  I never get tired of looking at it. I've shown this piece several times and it was almost sold once.  But here it still is and now has become part of my everyday.  I have three others that I feel the same way about.  I painted them years apart, have shown all of them, and over time, they have become my pieces.  A part of me.  If I see a piece of art that I initially fall in love with?, I have to decide if it is something  I will love even more as time passes.  So that is my main criteria for art in my home.  See! Not a mention of 'oil paint' anywhere!

This is the painting I look at every morning.  Mixed media on canvas.

This piece used to be my desk.  It's a door that I turned over and started cleaning my brushes on.  Mixed media.
This is mixed media with collage and assemblage on board.

This painting is under glass so not a very good photo.  This is mixed media and printer's ink on paper.

WOW! Great to see these. Particularly like the second piece. I could live with that on my wall for a long time.

I can see why these have become “yours” in many ways. I tend to fall in love with my own work, but the love remains strong over time for only a select few. The small piece I have of yours is one that has been on display from day one, and I love it as much as when I first saw it. It is fun to move them around though, to have them catch our eye again.

I love all of your work, especially the door that was your desk. And that you can prop it anywhere...and your linges and the warm colors. Thanks for sharing! roxanne

Gosh so you get porn ed too
I thought it was only me.....
I just delete the creep....

Your artwork is engaging and lovely and I can quite see why you surround yourself with these particular pieces.

One day I'd like to see it in real life.

I have to agree with the others --- the door/desk piece is fabulous, and I could easily see it living at my house!

You are so talented. Thank you for showing us your art!
It is easy for the artist to stop "seeing" the works. But their energy seems to increase, for me when anyway, when I shuffle them around the room, or place them upside down. Artist's choice.

Well I'd certainly be hard pressed to pick a favorite, but the face has such a haunting feel for me,,I'd maybe select that one. You did say you're giving these away right?
#:-D
I want 'em all.

Hi Annie! thanks so much - the second one I worked on for over three years on and off....

thanks Leslie - I agree - I like to move mine around also, but the door piece has been in our bedroom for a number of years now - it was in the front room for awhile a few years back and it sort of startled people who were so used to seeing it in the other room....oh, I'm glad that little piece still interests you - I have it's two sisters on my livingroom wall right now....oh, and wire man that you inquired about?, totally fell apart and he is now pieced back together (kind of)hanging on the outside of my studio - if you are ever this way, I would be happy to just give him to you - he would be good outdoor art....

Hi Roxanne - thanks! a door is a great thing to paint!

Hey Elizabeth!, ya, ole' porn ed stopped by one night and spammed me pretty good! looser! - wouldn't it be great to actually just meet in real life? - I'm all for it!

LOL! Karen - thanks, glad you like it!

Lyn, I couldn't agree with you more! I love turning my paintings, even the figures and faces - can be very interesting!

LOL Babs! - well, you would be the first to want the face - it is actually one of my favorite pieces - thanks for your kind comments...

Raph! - thank you so much! how kind....

Hi Jeane,

And I was getting to look forward so much to your adventure in oils!

The first one reminds me of your recent oil experiments - or do you think that's loopy?

And I have seen these chinese ed comments come through from other blogs. How d' y'all know its porn??!

I know exactly what you mean about 'not getting bored with it'... These are lovely paintings. Your house must be such an interesting place... I'd love to take a peek inside :)

good morning Mary Ann - glad you like the tulips - I took pictures of both the composte pile and these tulips and decided to post these - the last piece is a very early work....

Hi Jeanette - thanks, but I think photos make anyone's house look a bit better then it is..... we have a very small pre-fabricated little house stuck in the woods - it suits us very well - we didn't want to spend this part of our lives maintaining a home -

thank you Elizabeth! - I think that is exactly why they didn't sell - a bit strong....

LOL! Derrick! very funny - don't worry, I'm sure I'll be back on that jag very soon - I know you wait with bated breath - someone used their translator to translate porno eds fabulous spam....

morning Brenda - is that a criteria for you too? - interesting?, well, I have alot of art in here - mine and my friends, so, yes, in that way, it is interesting I guess - sounds like you guys might have gotten a bit of snow again yesterday?, ugh....

The painting/assemblage with the face is calling my name. Love it! And the door! ... so yummy. Thanks so much for showing these pieces Jeane. It shows a different perspective when you see them hanging on the wall surrounded by "things".

Jo Horswill said...

Jeane, I often look at my art hanging on my walls, and wonder why I've hung it!!! Some of my pieces hanging are "milestones" little reminders of turning points in my art practice.
I love this confident post, it's inspiring (had to use THAT word), it's making me re-think why I have hung some of my stuff and left it there for as long as I have. Maybe I do like some of it more than I'm willing to admit too!
These pieces of yours are sensational, love what you have shown here.

Jeane said...

LOL! Caroline, yes I do really have tulips - just this little corner patch, but still.....so love what you are showing on your blog right now....

good morning Lynne! - so nice to see your little bunny ears here this morning - thanks so much - I'm absolutely in love with your brick creatures!....

Hello Robyn - thanks and I think you are right - seeing work in a space that is alive with life makes a big difference doesn't it.....

Jo, I don't feel attached to very much of my own work once I've done messing with it and the sooner it's gone the better except these very few pieces - I think like you, they mark certain places in time....I don't like work collecting - it is usually recyled in some form - right now I have pieces outside getting worked over by nature - I'm finding it very interesting how subtle the changes occur and what differences these subtle changes make to the whole piece.....

mm! You are revelling in your personal palette, aren't you? I think I like the ghosty dark faceed one...

I love them all and can see why they remain in your home. I have wonderful paintings in my house that have hung in their spots for ages. They continue to inspire me and are now as much a part of my home as I am. They are like old friends who know all my secrets and refuse to tell.

Cynjon said...

This just makes me want to have a tour of your house! Lovely collection, and I can see why they've stayed with you.

Shayla said...

I loved them all, Jeane, I can see how they got to be your favorites. Oh,plus I see a peek of a work in progress in the sidebar. Love, love, love your textures and the unexpected touches of light. You have a "home" not just a house and of course that doesn't happen without great art.

Jeane said...

Hi Grrl! - yes, I guess you are right - the ghostie one has been turned down several times for showing because 'too dark' - well, ya! life is like that sometimes!

best friends never tell! thanks Pamela - I can only imagine the paintings hanging in your home after seeing what you select for your blog - beautiful all, I'm sure....

LOL! Cynjon! - the tour would be very short - tiny house, but a huge amount of art crammed in here!

thank you Shayla - I'm totally into painting reds right now (blood) and am finding it really interesting - so happy to hear that certain oils are working for you! yea!

Mary Ann Wakeley said...

Jeane, I love your work, and every one of these paintings. I especially love the door piece. Painting on a door is significant in and of itself :)

Enjoy the rest of your week!
