UPDATE: And even though in the post at Katherine's?, I refer to the painting as 'the ugly' in 'the good', 'the bad' and 'the ugly'?, I was referring to is the first image I sent Katherine. I actually like where this piece is now. The pieces I have been working on all relate to 'blood'. In the good way as in the 'life blood of life'.

How lucky am I? Well, Katherine Treffinger, a fabulous artist, is running a series on her blog, asking the question, "why do you show up at your studio & pick up your tools day after day?". She invited me to participate. Well, for those of you who don't know, I very seldom talk about my reasons for doing my art. I find it difficult to articulate, but I admire Katherine's work so much as an artist and felt so honored that she invited me to participate, that I put my fingers to the keypad and typed out my response. Of course this came at the time I was making a transition from acrylic to OILS!!!! I submitted a photo of a 'work in progress' and thought what the heck - not everything we put our brushes to (for those of us who use a brush because I know many of you don't) is a piece of ART! Anyway, Katherine was so nice and kept asking me how the piece was progressing and I would send her an image and then she would inquire again and I would send another image and even when she didn't inquire, I would send another image. Anyway, this is what I started with and click here to see where it is now. While you are visiting Katherine's, take some time to see some of the other artist's that have participated and most of all check out Katherine's work. It is just wonderful!

Oh the header painting .. ohh this one here above the comments link ... oh .. I am loving, coveting them both ...
It's such a delight to come to see your works in progress.
Jeane you are most generous. Thank you. It has taken forever for me to post your answer but it has been a delight getting your updates. I'll have to come up with another excuse to receive more! :>}
I encourage your fans to go read your wonderful response.
I love to see the progression of your work Jeane. And I totally agree about the rich smoothness of oils. They are the only way to go! I never did like working with acrylics, too stiff and unforgiving.
I like the before and after images, they look like two totally different paintings. You've achieved so much depth in the finished painting.
Did you say ``difficult to articulate''? Ma'am, I beg to differ.
(G'day from Australia - I'm a friend of Daryl's.)
Great post Jeane, fantastic to be part of Katherine's series...will pop over and check it out. You are definately on a roll with these oils!!! it's all just too good.
Header and side bar...some sensational stuff going on here. Jo xx
Nothing is more profound than saying "I love to do art"!
Please keep pushing yourself..the results are wonderful..
Yes, This is deserved lucky!! I was just over at Katherine's and left a message. I have been so happy to see what's up in your sidebar...the evolution of your challenge in oils!! The not knowing, the showing up it's all in the love.
I like how you have your WIP posted in the sidebar. I'll go visit Katherine's blog for the "after".
Oh, I am in love with your new banner... what incredible colors and depth, the umber tones look like a wall of a cave. And your thoughts on art... it takes a lot of guts for me to admit to myself that I made something "bad" or "ugly" I work the piece and re-work it... finally often throwing it away. Your "interview" was really great! Roxanne
Jeane thank you for so much. You don’t do a lot of words about art, but you do *make* art, and don’t seem to let anything get in your way. I get a lot of “contact enthusiasm” from your approach. Sort of the “just do it” approach, and being very clear who you make for (yourself) and why (to balance and enjoy your life.) The flow of creativity at ART IT is deep, wide daring and long.
LOL! Daryl! thanks so much....
Hi Elizabeth and thank you - I think I actually finished, that's right, finished a piece today! hurray! - but then tomorrow comes and just maybe one more mark, ya know!
OMG, Katherine, you have been so wonderful - don't be surprised if you get an image once in awhile! ha!
Hi Willow - yes and yes - I hope to see some oil soon that you are pushing around on canvas....
thanks Ro - I love achieveing that depth! life is all about layers, don't you think?
Hello David and welcome - oh, so glad I was able to get my thoughts across - I guess I'm a better doer then explainer - AND I visited your blog and wow!
oh, Jo, thank you so much - I'm loving it so - this whole group of paintings is all about 'blood' - all in a good way and maybe a bit in a not so good way - so loving what is happening at your place:) xxo
Lyn, you are so encouraging - will definitely keep pushing...
that is so right Mary Ann - it is all in the love - the sidebar is a good place for me to look at stuff too...thanks
Hi Chewy! since my posts are pretty far apart, the sidebar gives me a place to post current stuff - I loved your yellowy stone looking figures....
Hello Roxanne - LOL! no I don't mind showing my 'ugly' or 'bad' because that's part of my process - it's the only way to the good stuff - thanks so much
Hi Leslie - thank you so much - I have always loved Nike's saying - "just do it" - I'm definitely high on doing - that speaks for me.....
Wonderful post, Jeane. Great to see these pieces and to read a wonderful flow of words..........I love your new header, by the way.
Hi Jeane,
Enjoyed your interview over at Katherine's. Love your new header, in common with everyone else it seems! And the progress pics in the sidebar. LOTS happening!
good morning Annie - thank you - it was a challenge to talk about my work in such a specific way....
Hi Derrick - thank you and yes, much happening here - the good, the bad and the ugly - a dash of each everyday....:)
i like your answers, that you don't have to answer to anyone--its a form of finding freedom in self expression... all there!
the art is engaging, and there is that cowboy movie again; meet you at sundown on the dusty street of dreams! :)
I see no bad or ugly in ANY of your work.
I enjoyed seeing the piece at Katherine's, and thanks for the reminder of just why we show up and do it.
Like all have said, your banner and sidebar are a true feast!
I'll be really interested to read about your reasons for artwork at Katherine's. I'll pop across now! Glad you're still enjoying your oils.
Love the work in progress!
I loved reading about your raison d'etre when it comes to art. Very interesting... especially that you make it only for yourself and no one else. That is how it should be!! Thanks for sharing all of that :)
Katherine has a lovely site... I'll be visiting again.
~Brenda
mansuetude - thank you - there truly is a freedom in self expression - I think it is a basic need in everyone......yippee!, see ya at sundown!
hello Babs and thank you......
Hi Raph - wow, I have several pieces in progress right now - working multiples really helps inform each piece - thanks
thanks Brenda - it was fun......
Your process is so liberating. I am somewhat opposite. I think about other people to some extent when painting and have an agenda, what I want to say often being specific. While that works for me, sometimes it's burdensome and I have to shake it off. Your freedom and joy in the process itself is pure. IMHO, you can't beat purity and simplicity when it comes to art. Love the rich reds you've got going on. YAY, Jeane! That's zest.
Jeane I love the red work in progress on the margin!!! How does graphit do on oil or is it underneath?
I think that is what I have enjoyed so much about your latest adventures.. you just DID. No waffling, just squeeze out the tube and get messing about. That is brave, and inspiring.
I find all your work so interesting, that I'm excited about your new adventures in oil.
That didn't sound quite right, but you know what I mean. Yes?
jeane, jeane... i loveth everything you do.... these oils are GORGEOUS! xo
thank you Shayla - often I wish I had more of an idea or agenda, but it just disappears within minutes because what will happen if I mix these two reds together, etc......red for zest! yes!
Hi Katherine - oh, I just finished that piece today - it's off the sidebar now - well the graphite ( I love graphite) gets a bit messy and blurry, but that doesn't bother me - some of the lines you see are under and some are on top - it seems to like oil either way....
brave? really? well grrl, if there is a brave person in the room, I do believe that would be you! - thanks! I just always hope for the best!
yes, I know what you mean Pamela - and thanks for your encouragement - life is short and we mustn't wait! or it will all be lost....
peek-a-boo, I see a new you! and I love it Lynne! wonderful new profile pic! and thanks - you are always so positive! and it rubs off....
Congratulations on the feature!
I understand about speaking of motivation. I can write on many things, but to pinpoint one or a few reasons for doing what I do is near to impossible - so I just let loose with the most recent "reasoning."
Recently I saw a quote that said we artists have a need to "order the universe." That certainly resonates with me - and I admire your universe immensely.
As Ro mentioned, even your early progressions look amazing...like paintings in their own right. I thoroughly enjoyed the Jeane post at Katherine's. It has been a great series.
Hi Patrice! - thank you so much for your kind comment - it is sort of like that, albeit, it is my universe.....Ha!
thanks Robyn - Katherine is such a fine artist and it was an honor to be featured on her blog...
I will click on it to go see...
