over the edge........

This has been a REAL challenge - This piece is on a canvas that was given to me a few years ago. The canvas had an underpainting of some sort of material like glue that formed alot of texture. I then did a painting that was okay and has been in our home for a couple of years. It certainly was nothing special, but it had colors that went with the colors in our home, so it lived here inside. It was perfect fodder for playing with my new paints, so I drug it out to my little land of 'deconstruction' and started working on it. It's been in process for a couple of weeks and finally started taking shape a few days ago. Yesterday I was ready to throw it on the burn pile. It just got progressively worse as the afternoon wore on and on and on. I finally took a rag and wiped off as much as I could and then I could see it! The final, very bad photo, is how I left it yesterday. I was happy that I got it back on track and I just have to do the final tweaking today. I actually like it in this form. Will post a photo (hopefully better) of the final piece.

most of the original painting, but I've started painting over....

in process

Wham! all gone! and truly the ugly .......

in process

Finally I ended with this. I went back into the studio this morning to make sure I was still happy with where it's at and yes, I am. I'll finish it today. Have a very fabulous weekend everyone!

Oh Yeah! It's a keeper...you went through fire to get here but well worth it! Yes, have a great weekend.

Love those rich colors. Yes, "I like", too.

I am happy to know I am not the only person having 'what were you thinking' moments. What you ended with is fabulous. The memories of the process will make this painting all the more special.

When all else fails...one can always depend on the trusty rag :)
Jeane...I wish I was a fly (maybe a moth) on your studio wall. Would love to see you in action :)
The end result is all about "journeying" for me. I can see an amazing aerial view of water, land and that travelling life line...wow, I might just try to grab it and haul myself over for a visit!

I liked the original - and I love seeing the transformation. Ain't it great to utilize old canvases?

Great color and textures! Congrats...

I like it, all the layers give it a richness it wouldn't otherwise have.

Pamela, thank you so much1

Hi Leslie - thanks! hope Kurt is doing better :)

Hello Mary Ann and yes, through the fire for sure and in fact the thing almost went into the real fire! at one point! ha! I'm sure you know the feeling - thanks, and have a wonderful weekend also :)

thanks Willow and know at one point there wasn't a rich color in sight! and as Jo says the trusty rag made it clear again :)

Never feel alone Zappha - I have as many ugh! times as I do wow! times when I'm working and then once in awhile you get the painting that just falls into place bamo - I've had that one already this month so was up for a real struggle I guess - thanks for coming by!

thanks so much Raph - you are always so positive and it really rubs off :)

LOL! Jo, so true - the trusty rag to the rescue - I love the skeleton the oil leaves behind - sometimes it's really beautiful - Oh, how I would love for you to grab the life line and come for a visit - that would be the very best of everything! xxo

yes, it is great to reuse old canvases Patrice! underpainting already done, alot of texture already in place - it's a good fit - thanks - hope things are going well in your world :)

bookbabie, hello, and welcome - thanks so much and I'm so glad you came by and left a comment - come again :)

I like the 2nd to last picture/version... also am loving seeing numbers there - don't know why but I'm responding to them :) I can totally relate to your burn pile idea. But, it's better to just put it away!

I am thankful you show the warts and all versions..

Hi Jeane,

This looks very different to your other pieces. I like it very much! You obviously have a great deal of energy, patience, stamina and resolve. It would be much easier to "throw it on the fire"!

P.S. the WV is 'rebob', which is what you've done to the picture!

I enjoy seeing the transformation step by step. Thanks so much!

You're always up for a challenge, Jeane. Love that fearlessness! I wouldn't be surprised if you dragged something out of the burn pile, let it cool off and gave it a new life.
This one feels like a map of a journey and a landscape all at once. For me, the rhythm gives it narrative.

I totally relate to your process. You only wanted to throw it out. For me that would be progress. I want to quit painting. :>} Nice work!

good morning Brenda! - I liked the numbers too, but they got lost under the water - that number is in alot of my work - it's a number we see most mornings on the road when we walk - isn't our weather just the best? - so much nicer then those cold, cold winter days :)

good morning grrl! - definitely warts and all - the uglies are the walking through the fire part that makes any piece live, don't you think?

LOL! you're so right Derrick, but my Dad made it very clear to me when I was growing up that 'easy' got me no where! it was good advice :)

good morning B&W - thanks so much!

I have to tell you Shayla, when I read your comment, I thought, wow, what a fabulous idea! out of the fire - believe me, that will perculate! thanks :)

Hi Katherine - LOL! I can totally relate!

'lost before our eyes' - I love that Lyn

good morning Lynne - oh dear, I fear I may be mapping again - I did that for a number of years, but am feeling it strong again now - just love your new pic :)
