Not too much to show right now. I plug away each day - some days are good and some days are not so good - the paint goes my way some days and other days? it decides to give me a run for my money. But, there are my constants that I can count on each time I work: my chair - I love this chair - a number of years ago our neighbor had a garage sale and this chair was among the things she was getting rid of -
"how much for the chair?"
"you want the chair?"
"yes! it will be fabulous in my studio space."
"Oh, please, just take it!"
"serious?"
"YES!"

So the chair came to live with me and is one of my favorite things. I use to work standing up, but my knee doesn't like that much anymore, so the chair is perfect!

Here are my brushes. Well these are some of my brushes, but these are the ones I use all the time! They are like old friends in my hands. They pick up the right amount of paint, they maneuver it just the right way (well most of the time) and they don't seem to mind that I don't use them to apply brush strokes, but rather to scrub! Yes, I'm a scrubber!

This is my brayer. It is left over from my sojourn into printmaking. I've used it for many things since, but find it a fabulous tool to use with oils.

Yesterday was the day of a thousand errands and I always make a stop at the Goodwill to see if anyone has tossed out their paintings on canvas. I found 5 canvases! I was so happy. Nothing over $1.50. A wonderful way to get canvas on the cheap. A couple coats of gesso, or not, and they are good to go.

The above is a bad photo of a painting that is almost finished. A bit of glare on the top, but you can get the idea. Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Love that painting... have you thought of opening an etsy shop? I really think you should! Love your brayer it is delightfully well used! Happy memorial weekend.
Mmmm, love that alazarin crimson. The contrast with the gold is delicious.
Instead of talking about posh shops, friends and I used to 'brag' about the cheapest finds we found at second hand stores. My fav art supply find was a set of professional watercolor pencils. Good find on those canvasses and the chair.
The chair IS perfect and has such personality, too! Love how the new painting is progressing.
(palm slap on my forehead) The Goodwill! I never thought to look for art supplies there. - Nice old painting chair, even has a footrest.
Love this post - and I so identify with "the chair" "the canvases from Goodwill" and the good days and bad days...
Cheers! and congrats on the great finds...
Great post, I have a $5 chair from Goodwill, it is my fav chair..
I love your work, your colors are so wonderfully rich.
Katelen
Hi Brenda! - yes, I did think about opening an Etsy shop and then decided to build a website instead - my brayer has seen alot of different surfaces, that's for sure! have a wonderful Memorial weekend also :)
I know, I know, Shayla - I can't stay out of the Alizarin crimson - it's so yummy - wow you did score with the professional watercolor pencils - I'm a thrift store hound - I love the hunt -
hello Willow - thanks! - I agree, love my chair!
LOL! Chewy, you are so funny - not only does my chair have a foot rest, but it pulls out and then is a little stepstool - very cool! check out the thrift stores - you'd be amazed!
Hi Patrice - really loved your post today too! ya, I'm sure you can relate to 'good finds' - for assemblage and collage, thrift stores are treasure chests - sometimes I'll buy the clothes just for the fabrics or buttons or zippers!
thanks Katelen - you got a great deal for $5 sounds like to me!
Bad photo? Its a fabulous painting ...
Hi Jeane,
I am liking the turquoise(?) in your side bar shots! It would never occur to me to look for materials in a charity shop! I'm usually attached to the new, expensive look!!!
When I say I don't have much to show right now I wish I had a painting like this! Very nice. Your brushes are much happier than mine. I use a brayer with my oils also...fun. I covet the stool. :>}
I can see and feel the love in these materials...chair and brushes. Oh, the brayer!
I'm also loving the sidebar..thanks so much for sharing this progression. Do you have a show up now or soon?
Love the little brightest yellow square on the left. A window.
I've had such a hard time with Blogger the last couple of days,,,it wouldn't let me in here, and several other blogs.
Mad,,,made me MAD, I tell you!
(think I'll request a refund)
:-D
I buy canvases at garage sales,,but (wow) never thought about goodwill hunting!
I am all about the hunt too,,,the quest. Found little old frames for clayworks for 5 and ten cents.
Loved seeing all your stuff,,and hope I can find my brayer,,,haven't seen it in a while. With oils, huh?
It's great to see your artist's tools and chair too! Love the painting - the colour is so rich and deep.
thanks Daryl, I finished it today :)
Hi Derrick - I'm liking the turquoise too - I like both thrift stores and the retail world! they both appeal to me for different reasons :)
LOL! Hi Katherine - thanks for your kind comment - the stool is absolutely perfect!
Hi Mary Ann - the brayer has seen action, that's for sure and yes, I have a very small show up at my friend Lisa's - will post some pictures next week - have a great weekend
oh man Babs, blogger was wicked for a couple of days doing all kinds of weird and bizzare stuff - had problems also -yes, I like using the brayer for the underpaintings and it's a good mark maker - garage sales a good idea for canvases! thanks :)
thanks so much Raph - I love the deep colors oil lets me achieve too!
Very lucky finds....especially that chair! Love the painting as well as the brush cleaning canvas in your sidebar.
love seeing all your tools! and the painting is a stunner - dark and mysterious - love tht window of light!

You are a fearless explorer! It's funny how prosaic things can come to our rescue!
I have a brayer...where is it???
Just plain THANK YOU!!
Yes, this is a very cool chair.
Utilitarian and elegant.
I love looking at art materials almost as much as lloking at the paintings themselves.
But your final picture is very cool.
Happy weekend.
I love your chair! :-) Old stuff for sure has more 'Ãdentity' than new things i think.
Your paintings are always in such beautiful colors and shades and they are mysterious and magical in some way...
Sweet greetz from Momo Luna
yes, lucky, thanks Robyn - oh the brush cleaning canvas is now a finished painting - will post some finished work next week! :)
Hi Martha - thanks so much - I try to use as few tools as possible - it eliminates alot of decisions about what to use next - have to keep that energy for the work....
I love the word prosaic, Lyn - don't you just have some words that you like better then any others?! thanks for your kind comment.....
If I had alot of money, I think I would buy one of everything at the art supply store! thanks Elizabeth..I love my chair too....
thank you so much Momo Juna and I agree about old things having more 'identity' then new things :)
ooh... nice and murkey, just how I love it.. deep and intense. Yay for goodwill stores too...
One man's junk is indeed another man's treasure!! That is a fabulous chair! I loved the studio tour! It's always so interesting to see where the magic happens.
hey grrl! - thanks, I like it nice and murkey too!
hello Pamela - couldn't agree more - one's junk is another's treasure - fact! - I also love seeing people's tools and how they use them to create.... :)
I love all the photographs here... especially the paint brushes... Paintbrushes are so personal to the artist who holds them... your canvas's are such a lucky find and your painting has so much depth... I hope you have a beautiful day... Toxanne
Yummy!!!!!
That painting is glorious.
TFS on the studio supplies, too...
Roxanne, thank you so much - I so agree with all you've said :)
Hi DJ -I love the word yummy to describe paintings! thanks!
Yes! To the chair coming to "live with" you... what is more intimate, more part of the body than a chair we create in!
you maka me'a thinka good thing! You get ten gold stars for that.
Love your new header, it went WOW inside me.
