I stopped at a local gallery yesterday to get some information for submitting to an upcoming juried art show. It's a very big one here. Entrants from five states and British Columbia are eligible to enter. I needed information on how they wanted images sent - jpegs on a CD, printed images or could we email them to an address. I entered the gallery and a very nice lady at the front desk greeted me. There was a man sitting next to her. I didn't know if they were both sitting the gallery or he had just stopped by for a visit - didn't really matter. I said I needed some information on how to submit images for the upcoming art show. The conversation went something like this:
she said, "Oh, alright."
I said, " I would like to know how the gallery would like the images submitted. Did they want (and then I asked the above questions)......"
She kept smiling and nodding and then asked, "digital jpegs?"
just as she was responding I spied a brochure on the counter that had all the information I needed, but it was too late.....
I said, "um, yes, did they want them burned to a CD, printed, emailed?" ....mind you I was trying to read the brochure at the same time and I was able to see "projected digital image" which I then repeated to the woman at the desk...
"Oh, they would project them on that wall over there (she points to the far wall)"
the man says, "digital is a picture from a digital camera, I believe."
she says, "oh and then they would project it on that wall over there."
I'm reading as fast as I can....
she says, "so did you need a projector?"
I said, "projector?"
"yes, to put your digital images on?"
he says, " I believe that a digital image is a clear image from a digital camera."
I said, "well actually, this brochure has all the information I need. Thank you so much."
She said, "oh, you're welcome. Should I leave a note about the projector?"
I said, "oh, no thank you."
"are you sure?"
"yes, I'm quite sure. thank you."
"Oh, well tell me your name so I can look for your art at the image show."
I said, "well actually, there is some of my work right over there (I point to two of my pieces that are in the current juried show)"
She looks at the wall where images can be projected and says, "oh, I really like those." They are not my pieces, she is looking at the wrong wall.
I say, "no, those two pieces on that wall over there."
She continues to look straight ahead at the opposite wall. The man just keeps looking at me. It is time to leave. I have my brochure.
She says, "thanks for coming in. I really like your work." Sigh.
This is a piece I just finished.

Funny story Jeane! I think I talked with that lady once at the same gallery....Fabulous painting! It is remindful of cave paintings. Rich indeed.
Great textural piece... loved the tale, too. I wonder what her drug of choice might be?
I met someone just like her the other day and wanted to knock on her head....halloo is anybody home?
Your latest painting is a new favourite for me, Jeane. Amazing texture in left corner.
Haha funny story; do i talk an alien language or are you still asleep? ;-) Your painting is strong and beautiful as ever.....
i love your painting! SO much mystery to enter... (i always want to turn them and see them from every angle... always of course, i should do that in private..)
that thing about the projector is funny. I came across a situation with digital images that would be seen and juried by projector; there is a specific format for the size you send your image--they should tell you this... a crop and a white space on horizontals (it looks better that way i guess, doesn't distort...)
i like the way you stab them with your sword of knowledge in the last act ! ha ha... :)
Ditsy or what?
Loving the painting - especially how the dark area at the top is so intense.
I am always tempted to ask if they forgot their medication when I meet people like that. Very funny story. And you know how much I like this image already. You are doing some awesome work. I will be doing some encaustic this week with a friend in her gallery. Should be fun.
Alice, were you talking to the Caterpillar and the March Hare?
Interesting title "Vasco da Gama's Route". I really like the color, texture and dimension. Excuse me for saying... I get a sinister feeling from this one... and um... I see decay. Not that what I see is bad... just that my comment doesn't sound very flattering.
ah..people..
they are always a source of intrigue.Your story is so engaging..I wonder how you came by the tittle? Did it tell you it's name in the process of it's creation, or did you decide when it was done?
Sometimes life is down right psychedellic isn't it. Maybe you entered another dimension for a minute...or they were visiting from another planet and trying to fake it. Love the painting as usual.
Yikes! - it was definitely outer limits time - thanks, Leslie :)
well Patrice, whatever it was, she either didn't take it or needed more :) thanks :)))))))
LOL! Robyn - I know exactly what you mean :)))) thanks Robyn, I'm glad you like it...

oh Chewy, I love that you say sinister - I don't think that's a bad thing - always the good/bad - that's what we always try to balance :) and I take it as a compliment! - thanks! :))))))
thanks Grrl! - it just came during the painting - I love mapping and I was thinking about the explorers and discovering new places - oh how I loved your posts from the exhibition of knitups! it was just wonderful :)))))))))
oh, that's so funny - psychedellic - that is exactly how it felt! I truly thought other worldly while I was driving away - thanks so much Katherine :)))))
Ah...Mama said there'd be days like this.
I'm enjoying seeing the progress on your series.
too funny! That sounds like something that would happen to me:) Your work is beautiful.
Love that gorgeous dark and those scratches.
Oh, Jeane, you know what those arty people are like; daydreamers, in a world of their own, not in touch with reality - you know!!
Am liking Vasco's route!
Oh my, there are days like that where you just want to run away, but you have to stay to listen to that and all the while thinking to yourself "Gad, why did I asked? Now how do I get out of this?" :-D
This lolcat sums up your experience : http://icanhascheezburger.com/2009/07/20/funny-pictures-futility/

What a great story. Don't you worry that the woman may not be able to find her way home?!
Gorgeous work. I really love the darkness up in the right, juxtaposed against the beautiful burnt sienna (?) and browns at the bottom. Just wow.
Another glimpse into your beautiful world Jeane...great piece here.
"people are funny creatures"
:)
hello Martha - whacky for sure - thanks so much, :)
Hi Melinda - well, perhaps she evaporates with the ether - thank you - actually what looks like sienna is alizeron crimson, paynes gray and my fav burnt umber and always a little yellow - it feels richer then just black or even burnt sienna to me :) thank you
Hi Jo - thanks and yes, people are funny cretures - she actually was trying her best to help and I appreciated that xxo
Another new favourite for me...good luck at the exhibition. I see from previous posts you have been very busy. I love the beeswax.

Some people just seem to be on another planet! How very frustrating - serious and funny sides to the story! I wondered how often I am NOT HERE!! HMmmmmm! Fabulous painting that I'd love to see in the real - thanks Jeane

Wow. Thank you for sharing the mix of color. I had a feeling there were several colors, but couldn't quite figure it out. What a great combination.

I'm with Zappha, think she missed her meds that day. You did so well to keep a straight face really. Love the under the skin series too, lovely!
but wait! what about the projector?!
(hilarious story.)
Absolutely stunning piece!
(but are you sure you don't need a projector?)
The work (along with the story)puts me in mind of a brain scan.
Hi Kim - omg! looney tunes! she never missed a beat and was sure we were on the same page -thanks :)
Counsel, you know what gallery I was in and at least I now know if I need a projector, she's the woman for me :)))
brain scan is a good fit for the whole post I think! thanks for coming by during your busy summer :)
