finally exhaled......

I know how to relieve my stress - it's not a walk in the woods, a hot bath, a nap, a good workout, baking cookies, a massage - it's working - working in my studio - walking in, choosing a surface, opening my paints, laying out my tools and then painting - this is how I exhale - sitting down on my stool, picking up my brush and making the first marks - I can feel the stress leave bit by bit until I'm finally lost in the work - lost in the composition, the balancing, the journey - I finished this piece today - it gave me back my balance, my energy, my being right in the world - I'm so thankful.

How right your are, Jeane, that walking into one's workspace and starting to create calms one. I find the same and have just spent a blissful day likewise. Now I know I can move through September and into Autumn and revel in creativity from time to time. Do you feel the same? Your painting is lovely.

The meditation of subtle movements. That's how I think about painting or any kind of art production.

I love this piece for its energetic calmness. That is difficult to achieve.

Hi Jeane,

Glad your getting the equilibrium back. Is this piece from 'beneath the skin' or 'explorers'?

Would you believe the WV is "toughhop" - just what you've been through lately!

Back in touch with your work - and all is right with the world. Absolutely beautiful work; I love all the scratchy mark making. Like the scratches of life transformed to beauty on your painting surface...Congratulations on your upcoming show as well. Sounds like fun!

good morning Ann, nice to see you here - creation for me is everyday and when I can't paint it becomes very stressful for me!

hello Margaret - meditation is a nice way to approach the work - I'm not a meditator - I'm more of an attacker! it's usually pretty full on when I'm working and very little Zen! ha!

LOL! Derrick! wv can be so right on! this is beneath the skin series!

Hi Leslie, thanks! got to balance again! feels good!

good morning Daryl - my knife was very busy! thanks xxo

Can see it all in your painting Jeane, beautiful balance and calm.
How art saves!

PS...But soaking in a bath eating cookies does sound good :)

Glad your feeling better, xx

This is an excellent piece of work. I can't agree with you more on how de-stressing painting is.I always work on small ink paintings during my break in the office as a way to de-stress and get in touch with the artist in me.

hey jeane...love this post about destessing with art. So true for me also. Your work feels like an exploration and under the skin both. Your new header is fabulous! My computer had to be replaced, now upgraded to Vista OS and many of my programs don't transfer. Frustration...i went and painted, resolved yesterday some issues in paint and several paintings found names which means they are getting finished...just in time for the upcoming show.

okay, yes, soaking in a tub and eating cookies does sound wonderful! Jo - ha! but then the guilt of creating more of that 'beached whale' body a la chocolate chip cookies!! and with painting, I never feel guilty! :) xxo

thank you twistedangle - what a good idea for break at the office - I use to write poetry, very badly, but it really was a life saver some days - thanks for coming by :)

good morning Maggie - yes, I think you are right about exploring and beneath both! the paintings I've started are headed in that very vein - congrats on your upcoming show!

Jeanne this piece has so much depth. I'm glad you can loose yourself when you paint and work through all that stress. I agree. It is grounding.

P.S. love the distressed doll's head on your sidebar. I'm imagining all the ways that totem may develop. Please share when finished. Now I want to go buy dollies at thrift shops to bury outside.

hello Rosie! - it's good isn't it? :))

Shayla! so good to see you here - you have been missed - yes, it is so grounding, lucky us! oh, yes, get some babies and put them underground for the winter! - new creatures in the spring!

Hi Lyn - oh, yes, I am lucky to have my art as the extreme stress reliever - thanks so much xxo

LOVE the texture you make... its wonderful to find your bliss, no!

Tell Jo eating cookies in the bath can't be good, they will get soggy and you will have a crummy bath. :)

exhale some more!

Happy exhaling, Jeane! I wish I could visit your exhibition, it would be so great to see your works in actuality. Hope it goes really well.

The painting so reflects mind and heart. Glad you were at the center of your world and there the stress left and the art making began. Love the scratches and markings!
Congratulations on the upcoming show...also love the announcement!

Yes it's quite amazing how one can actually feel the stress seeping away. The best therapy! Looking at your painting is soothing for me too. The feeling I keep getting with the paintings you are doing now is of water reflecting on a cave wall.

yes Mansuetude, it is wonderful to find one's bliss! thank you - LOL! soggy bath cookies not as good as soggy milk cookies! exhaling :)

it's truly a gift - we are so lucky xxo

I am so glad you have time in your studio, with your beloved paints and brushes, and that you are exhaling out all that stress. I can imagine your big sighs. Beautiful work... I love the connectiveness of this piece... Roxanne

You exhale, and I have a sharp intake of breath. This seems to be the usual state of affairs when I open your blog and see a new painting.

If I actually walked into your studio I would probably require smelling salts. There is definitely power in what you do, Jeane.
