It's my last night in Southampton Ontario. Tomorrow night at this time I will be home. I can't say I'm not ready to go home, but the three weeks I've spent in this community have been an experience I will never forget. Every night I would sit here on 'my perch', the arm of an easy chair, in the second floor apartment above the studio, my laptop sitting on the windowsill faced directly at the art school office across the courtyard - sometimes I get a solid internet connection and other times I don't - tonight I have a connection so I thought I would try a quick post - as I sat here each night I began to see patterns - the same couple walking their dog, the girls across the street leaving their jobs at the little hole in the wall family owned diner, the young boy cutting through the courtyard delivering his papers, the lone woman walker, the 8pm man who walked to the payphone the same time each night to make a call, the yoga class on Tuesday nights going into the gallery for their Tuesday night yoga workout, the seagulls on the top of the tower opposite settling down for the night, and listening to the chimes on the tower clock opposite my window as it strikes the hours - the town has been quiet for most of my stay, but this weekend is the annual celebration of people coming to open their summer cottages - the quiet has gone and a party atmosphere has taken it's place - the high season is starting - of the twelve paintings I was able to complete while I was here, I was able to get two strong ones - both of them will be staying here - they found homes and I'm thrilled.....I can't believe that I actually got them to upload....

this one came first - it's mixed media on board and I really like it....

this one came later and I think is the strongest work I did here - again, mixed media on board......
now let's hope I can publish ......see you all next week

these are beautiful Jeane and so different from any of your other work that I've seen - I am not surprised they have found a good home - glad you had such an inspiring and rich time in Ontario - happy home coming!
Welcome home, Jeane! Always nice to return despite the adventure you've had. I particularly like the terracotta colours in the second pic. Very strong indeed.
Jeane, let me just say AGAIN how deeply fortunate I feel for having experienced that Southampton class with you.
I touched the first painting you posted here, and am not at all surprised it has found a home.
The second one . . . . WOW! Those deep reds are so passionate and that opening of light (which your figure is looking away from) makes stories come alive in my mind.
Which will come as no surprise to you.
(PS-stock up on that board! You make beautiful music together.)
Awesome work .. you were clearly inspired!
Both paintings speak to me, but I agree that the second is especially powerful, and for me, in a spiritual way...I just want to linger looking at it for a long while....
Cynthia
welcome home, jeane... these paintings, well, they're beyond words for me... xo
Exciting work, Jeane. The bottom piece looks like an evolution in your work, an important piece in your painting history.
I think I miss your vibrant energy already. The rest of the day was AWESOME. I went to see the gentleman who is lending us the other Shillings. They were so beautiful and we will get to show ten of them.
I hope your trip home was comfortable and I do hope you will return. I promise not to work you so hard.
It sounds like you've had a great time away and it's great to hear 2 pieces are going to have new homes. For me, the second one is spookily beautiful and I know I'll be thinking about it when I can't see it anymore.
Your days and nights in Southhampton were rich experiences! Not a surprise that two of your pieces stayed behind...congratulations!
I do love how the images have evolved in such beautiful haunting ways!
thanks Rosie - it was a rich time and working on these figures was wonderful :)
you are so right Derrick! it's really good to be home - I'm not a very good traveler, so home feels really wonderful right now :)

good morning Z! thrilled you are excited about the work you saw yesterday - travel was exhausting yesterday - I had so many security checks I couldn't believe it! customs in Calgary was forever, thought I'd miss my connection and then we took off in this tiny tiny jet to connect to Seattle - the door opened to deplane and we were on the tarmack forever away from the terminal and I was so thankful it wasn't raining as I drug my tired ass and the heaviest bag in the world up the last flight of stairs - Jim was there to meet me with a bouquet of flowers - he got a special security pass to get to the arrival gate like in the old days - it was wonderful! xxo
your music was such an inspiration to me as I worked Annie - the second image definitely has bits of your world imbedded on that unconscious level xxo
