marking summer....

As a way to mark the first day of summer, I'm posting an under painting I did today - as I was cleaning up, this felt like the dark making way for the light, which seems appropriate for this solstice day - we are bringing in summer with overcast and drizzle, which seems to be the weather of choice for the Pacific Northwest - we are hoping for sun anytime soon....

these last two photos are of a larger painting I finished this week - the pic below is not cropped - it's just the work sitting on the floor in my work space.....

this is mixed media on board - 48x38 and the bottom photo shows it in the house to dry for the next few weeks - it can also give you an idea of the scale - the fabulous Caroline Douglas sculpture in front is about 2.25 feet tall....
Happy first day of summer everyone! Make art!

More fantastic work, Jeane! I love the marking in this over the energetic drips and moving colors. It reminds me of a summer day, too bright like we have here in Arizona, in which we are running toward shade. I know, just the opposite. Trade ya'.

I hear you...I'm working, working, working. You are such an inspiration.

Happy Summer and Studio Time!

It is good to see the actual scale of a piece. Lovely work as always Jeane. Life is pretty much the same....heading in the same direction. Happy Summer Soltice to you. Namaste Z

I love these pieces, especially the movement in those lines and runs. Hope you get some sun soon. We've got the opposite - wondering when it might rain.

Thank you Jean. I enjoyed seeing the work. When the sculpture is removed, do you miss it? Is something needed in the lower right hand corner of the painting? I love your use of color!

It's wondrous- inviting, reminds me of a throne (perhaps I'll sit down), and I love all your beautiful marks and drips.

Hi Jeane,

I wonder how the under painting will finish? Vivid 'orange' in the other (which I think may have been "our" sky rocket one!). Hope you do get some sun. We have been unbelievably spoiled with sunshine recently!

good morning Katelen, thank you, always so nice to see you here :)

Hi Melinda, thank you - love your take on the work - so happy to hear you are working your brains out - would love to trade a few of your glorious hot days - actually this morning the marine mist is lifting and the sun is peeking out! xxo

thank you Maggie - working here very hard with a couple of projects that are a real divergence from my normal work :)

Hey Z! thanks - same here - making art daily and working on a few different things - we'll see!xxo

Hi Leslie - well it may be sunny today! Sun peeking through the trees and I'm hopeful :)

thank you Annie - hmmmm, I hope there is still rain left for you - we might have used your quotient for the year besides ours xxo

hello Manolo and thank you for your kind comment :)

Hi Annell, thank you and if I understand your question correctly, the lower right satisfies me - it has alot of texture which doesn't show in the photo - I think that is what you meant :)

good morning Shayla, thank you - love what you see in the painting and yes, please sit down xxo

Daryl, mmmmm, sounds wonderful, hot xxo

Well, I see remnants of the Skyrocket piece. I think!
(Pouting!)
Just kidding :-) it is gorgeous.
I love the drip area, and very happy to see it to scale. Gives a whole other feel.
The top piece is only an underpainting?
An underpainting?
Man, I guess I am just weird, as I love the journey on which it takes me,,,just as it is at this minute!
You want sun?
Boy have we got sun!

I love this and honestly, I love everything I have looked at here. And I have to confess that I haven't studied abstract art to really know anything other than how it makes me feel to look at it and yours makes me feel awestruck.

Jeane,

Thank you for the follow! Your work is stunning and always catches my eye! I hope your summer has gone well so far. It's pretty sticky here in Boston, but I'll take it!

A good evening to you,
Brian

good morning Brian, thank you - oh, I'd much prefer to be sticky then wet, but we've actually had two sunny days now, so we must be on our way :)

Love your making way for light painting! I think even for someone who does not like abstracts, it would be very clear:)
