what's a girl to do?........

What's a girl to do when she is sick and needs to stay quiet for a couple of days, has no interest in daytime TV and not a good book in sight? Well she trolls eBay for some funky autumn fashion! That's what she does! I love thrifting and eBay is a great place to troll if you know what you're looking for. I made a game out of it and gave myself $100 to shop with. $100 in today's retail doesn't go very far, but if you like a treasure hunt, you can make it work for you. The first item I searched for was a new leather, well not new, but pre-owned, handbag for fall/winter. I found a seller that had fabulous bags and great prices and I got a great deal on the black bag in the pic below. Then I knew I wanted another little shrug. I love these little sweaters. They are perfect for Fall evenings. I don't wear polyester because it heats me up faster then noon in the desert. Cashmere or cotton or a blend of silk and cotton, etc. Well I found the one below and won the auction. It's perfect! Then it was off to find a cashmere scarf.

Yum! I found the one below and it should be here by the end of the week. I love the two patterns together.

I still had some money left so I started searching for a pair of vintage doc marten 1460 8 hole black boots. Found them! Won the auction and they should be here at the end of the week also. I went a bit above my $100 limit by about $12. Not bad. I then moved on to etsy and why I would shop anywhere else, I don't know! They have some of the most amazing designers selling fabulous clothes. My Christmas list grows by the day. That's what I did when I had my cold. It was fun and I got some things I've wanted without leaving my house and staying on budget! There is one more thing that I'm dying to own and it is a little Italian black leather and studded bag at my local consignment shop! Oh, I love it. It sits in a special case with a price tag of over three hundred $$$$$$'s. The owner paid over $600 for it in Italy. Sigh. However, I'm in negotiation to lower the price a bit and my own credit (from my consignments) gets higher everyday. I visited it today on my way home from town. We had a walk-a-bout through the store together and then it was put back in it's special case. sigh......

I have also been working and I'm in that deconstruction phase - deconstructing my work on cardboard that I did in the spring and reworking it on some old canvases. This seems to happen every Fall. Must be some sort of unconscious ritual that I have to perform every year. Anyway, this is one of the pieces. Some of the muslin I ripped off of things is also showing up on these. I have a couple more in progress and some paintings in the works also.

Hope you are all well into your week and finding it good.

My body hurts just reading about all the energy you have...EVEN when you are not feeling well. Sounds like fun. I think I may give it is a try. I am in the market for a pair of converse high tops but I refuse to pay $64 bucks.

I'm glad your illness was nothing serious but even so, colds can be awful. I don't think I could have shopped like that when feeling ill. What a boost for your well-being as these treasures arrive. I hover around charity shops here, but usually the fashions I buy for a couple of £s are to cut up for textile journals!

Now do remember, Jeane, that poor little shop owners like me won't get rich if you do all your shopping online with ebay! Wasn't the shop person nice to let you have a walk-about with the bag you covet? I'm glad you managed to brighten your cold days though!

Oh I am coveting that scarf .. and I want to see that bag up close .. who, would you share?, did you buy it from on eBay?

And I love that canvas

LOL! good morning Z! well my body hurt too during my cold, but laying on the bed with a laptop wasn't very energetic - if you know what you are looking for ebay is a very fun place - if someone outbids me?, I don't care..I just keep looking, won't go over my set amount for each item xxo

hello Ann and I do the same - sometimes I just want the buttons, or some part of a garment I will cut away and use for something else - it's all part of the hunt for very little money :)

never fear Derrick - though I prefer thrift, I never neglect retail - and the shop where the little black bag resides is a regular haunt of mine, and when I walked in yesterday she said Jeane, I have a pair of boots I know you will die for and she was right! a fabulous pair of designer boots with the biker look I covet for under 80$, but I had to say no because I'm putting all my eggs in the basket for that little black bag!

doesn't it look fabulous Daryl? I'm hopeful the real thing looks as good - it's a combo silk/cashmere, so will be able to wear it for at least 9 months of the year - will definitely email you the seller on ebay and I found an even better one on etsy xxo

Wow,
Coveting and lusting.
Aren't those two of the what? seven sins? something like that,,,
Anyway:
What wonderful bargains you got,,,(love the bag),,I always forgive myself for lusting and coveting if they don't cost me much.
Good luck with the highly coveted retail bag,,,I'm sure I saw your name on it.
(hope you're almost well)

Hi Jean, Very cool loot! I wish I had the ability to put together thrift store finds...alas other than jeans and tshirts, I don't have a sense of style:/
I am continually amazed at the stunning works your crank out, thank you for sharing them with us. The arm patches are awesome!!

Jeane, hope you are feeling better. if I lived close by I'd bring over some of my fire cider, an old remedy I made up. Seems to work for me.

I don't have the patience for ebay; doing etsy is hard enough....but I"m glad to know of your success and glad you are deconstructing too--such a great exercise which you turn to great results.

To your health!

Ooooh, I love this deconstructing work. Very, very cool.

Thanks for taking us on your shopping trip. It was great fun and you got some fabulous deals!

Glad you're feeling better, too.

I love your new scarf, I think I am developing an addiction which my family seems happy to feed! Also I LOVE the turquoise, have you read the anthropology of turquoise by Ellen Meloy? If not I think it will only increase your love affaire!!!

good morning Leovi and thank you so much for your comment :)

hello Mr. Berger and YES!, just the right buzz and now I'm over it and slogging around in the studio doing some very bad art! :)

I'm well and back to work - oh, the bag Babs! on the high meter of my 'lust' list, however it's not retail, it's consignment - all broken in xxo

thanks Chris! the arm patches were so fun - I don't know if I have style either, I just know what I like!

Fire Cider! wow, Maggie, that sounds like a cure for almost anything - I'm feeling much better and working again! albeit, badly, but then pretty soon it will have to be good because that is the progression xxo

xxo Robyn - thank you - I love the idea of assemblage and it's always a very statisfying break from painting...

good morning Melinda, thank you, feeling much better - I'm always a bit baffled when I find myself in this sort of rhythm - ripping things apart to and putting them back together with totally unrelated work, but of course that's the point isn't it - it's all related xxo

hello Deb - oh, that sounds like a wonderful book, I will definitely check it out and thanks for coming by :)

Great shopping and staying on budget...almost! Love the purse and I know the Doc Martens...I'm on the hunt for boots with buckles this year. I'm a catalog shopper but always look for free shipping!
Like the way you are reworking this piece and know it will be altogether different next time around...which is a good thing!
Glad you're feeling better!

I think you are right about 'too much too many' I think manusuetude, however a lovely place to wander when the mind won't stay focused - a wonderful way to describe this work as a quilt - it is, isn't it! xxo

staying on budget is part of the game for me Mary Ann, because in the reality of all of it, I don'tNEED any of it, but it's fun to play the game!xxo

They're not kidding when they say, shop till you drop! So you've found shopping to be a good medicine? Me too.
Love that gorgeous scarf, have the shrug in lime green and good luck with the Italian #.
Feel good, stay well!
