Happy Thanksgiving.......

The snow came yesterday. I'm not a fan. FB was absolutely alive with snow reports from friends all around the area. A state of giddiness seemed to prevail. I was not giddy. It causes all sorts of disruptions and extra challenges I would rather not deal with. By the time the storm finally blew itself out, we had almost a foot of snow on the ground. Sigh. It's just cold and extremely difficult to get around - yesterday I wore two sweaters, two pairs of socks, my dads old fingerless gloves and actually worked in the studio and finished a painting. I could see my breath the whole time. The only reason I can think of that I did that was because the part of my brain that sends me all the messages about living in a reasonable manner was frozen and not functioning. I'm still not warm. Today Jim and I had to go in search of pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving. Nightmare. Not the roads, but the grocery store. It was teeming. We got a parking place and very carefully made our way across the icy parking lot , found a cart and entered the chaos. Everyone was on a mission. It was a huge traffic jam of people and carts. 'Excuse me', 'oh, sorry', 'thank you', 'uh oh', 'excuse me', 'oh, hi', 'uh, no I'm not doing theatre anymore', 'right', 'good to see you too', 'who was that?', 'can't remember his name', 'excuse me', etc., etc., etc........the photo below is our backyard.

and here is the painting I finished yesterday - after I posted it on flickr someone said it reminded them of straw and ice - very good interpretation....

this is mixed media on paper on board 10x10 - 'She went too Far'

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone.

I'm not a fan of winter weather, either, Jeanne! I'm a big fan of this piece, though. I was trying to think what it makes me think of- those lines in the center crackle with energy. Electricity!

Hi Jeane, I can't tell you how much I dislike snow also, even though your back yard looks so beautiful.
I'm getting caught up on your blog,,,love all the new work, as well as what's in the sidebar.
Stunning and thought provoking, as always.

Up until late this afternoon we have had balmy weather up here in Canada. It seems odd that the west coast (California) has been having so much snow. I am sure all your Thanksgiving celebrations will cheer you up. I really like the feel of this 'ice and straw' painting Jean. It is crisp and clean.

Snow! Already?! Oh, my, it's so beautiful...from here.

Your "She went too Far" is stunning. Yes, it does seem to have ice qualities. Yum.

Wishing you warmth as you observe the snow.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too!!

Hi Jeane, I'm not sure you've seen my last two paintings, fb is giving me problems but I am putting something in motion....every night. Your resent paintings are wonderful, as usual. I know your feeling of cold to paint. I wear a down vest and earmuffs. We haven't had snow yet but it's so cold. The wind is howling and the lake crashing. I love it except for the extra clothes I have to wear. Have a great Thanksgiving. xoxo

your painting looks like a frozen pool- or creek bank, fabulous!

a prophetic painting?

The straw was your last among the ice to come...

I LOVE the snow - living in hot and sunny Queensland, Australia, I miss the cold very much and the beauty of the changing seasons. Maybe we can swap. I love your paintings, Jeane - your mark making is exquisite.

It's beautiful. I'd love to look at it everyday.

When I get chilled to the bone like that, I take a hot bath. Two sweaters won't do the trick. Sounds like you just want to be in your studio like normal and the snow has brought utter chaos.

Must say, I'm one of the giddies. When the snow melted before I had a chance to shovel of the balcony, I was disappointed. I do however, avoid the grocery store around the holidays ;)

I like your rant about the cold weather in contrast to the lovely and pastoral snow scene in your back yard. Don't you think the friction makes for good work?--I.e. your piece "she went too far." Best wishes for a lovely Thanksgiving and may it heat up in your neck of the woods.

First, I love the art, as I always do when it is yours, Jeane. Secondly (and I haven't yet read the other comments) it resonated with me; it's not that cold yet here, but we have had no heating for a month (long story) and I too am huddled in layers of clothing and trying not to show that I am cold when R. is doing all he can to recover the situation. So I'll think of you - and would have loved to have gifted you my spare pumpkin sitting on the cill; maybe I could lob it into space ? ....

LIke Wild Somerset Child, I have a pumpkin looking across the room at me and not a celebration in sight! This piece almost looks like it's painted onto a metal plate. I like the sidebar piece as well. Keep Warm!!

Love the grocery store report... too funny! I'm not overjoyed about the snow either - but your back yard sure does look beautiful. Stay warm :)

hello Hannah - well, thank god the snow is all gone now and there is just a stubborn patch of it left on the back deck! aahhhhh - so nice to be back to damp mossy gray :)

hello Ann, oh, my, no heating for a month! wow, you are a better person then I am - I would have been whining everyday! good to see you here :)

Hi Annie - thank you - all better now! snow gone, me happy :)

Hi Brenda! we are regular again and I see you guys are freezing and snowy! so happy to see you here :)

thank you Skizo! thanks for stopping by :)

Hey Don, definitely don't feel the romantic part of the snow, but my fingers are double crossed for the fabulous cuff give away - I so covet it :)

Window display, what fun! Yes, and physical. We did our pagan holiday tree in the gallery before Thanksgiving. The guys did the outside lights and I hung the ornaments, but we did a simple set up. The painting is fabulous; you are doing some really fine work, Jeane.

What a beautiful backyard. And the texture and scratchiness of your painting is wonderful.
