assemblaged......

Well, here is what became of the elements I worked with this week. These four pieces are combinations of my current paintings, found objects and pieces of old paintings or assemblages that have been deconstructed. These four pieces will be at Salon Delucca for the month of February, so if you are locale stop in check them out. Have a great weekend everyone!

This first piece is on a salvaged door - two of my paintings are combined inside a found frame and a crucifix is added from another assemblage piece that is now deconstructed....there are also collaged papers.......19x12

this second piece is on a salvaged door with a small painting, collage paper, a photo I took of a crow on our skylight, dipped in bees wax (this had been part of a light box) rusted wires that have been part of an assemblage I had outside for years, a little box with waxed edges that has been many different things - then some sort of wonderful glass plate I found somewhere...25x14

and the next two are both done on salvaged doors that are covered in an old musical script, ink and two little paintings that are mounted on a ripped December painting - these are both hand rubbed with wax.....24x18.5

So that's what got assembled this week - you can go to here to see the side views if you wish.

stage two.....

Good morning everyone - this week it's all about using all the elements I've created over the past two months to create new work - blending the old with the new - assemblage and collage. This is my very favorite part of the process. The new work I've created on paper is now being torn, ripped, layered and incorporated with things like old scripts, salvaged cupboard doors, old canvases, etc. The photos below are details of some of the pieces in process. I will post the finished work towards the end of the week. Have a good one everyone!

the mundane.....

..... morning routine - recycle bottles, mental note - check to see if we need more peaches (I won't write it down, so will probably forget) - rinse dishes, put in dishwasher, wipe counter - mundane, almost zen like - a strange form of comfort - routines.....

connections...

As I continue to explore 'connections', I thought I would post a progression. Haven't done one in awhile - my focus for the past year has been on 'inner connections' - those moments that give us an instant sensation - certain tastes like, sour - instant sensation - touch - our body reacts - a kiss - what does that moment feel like - an unexpected loud noise - we are constantly reacting to outer stimulus and that has interested me for years and my work has focused more and more on those reactions - the December challenge really pushed me in new directions and this exploration will continue this year. I continue to work on paper with graphite, india ink, pencil and oil. The first photo is my underpainting.

the pic below is about the middle of the process.......

...and the pic below is the final piece......

mixed media on paper - 19x24

Have a great week everyone!

Risk In Artmaking

That is the name of the class I will be teaching the first week in May at the Southampton Art School in Southampton, Ontario Canada. I am extremely excited to have this opportunity. The class will focus on jumping the line and taking risks to push through the fear that holds us back from being the very best we can be as an artist. We will be doing the work of deconstructing worked pieces - the whole idea of taking something we just love, deconstructing it and taking it to a different level and loving it even more. I don't have all the final details yet, but as soon as I do, I will post them in my sidebar. So if you are in that neighborhood and want to push your art and yourself, come join me. I would love to meet you! I'm in the studio working like crazy. Stuff is still pouring out of me. I thought I would leave you with my favorite piece of the December challenge. And if you want to be included in the drawing on Saturday, please leave a comment on my last post. Have a fabulous rest of the week everyone!

give away......

Welcome to 2010! A brand new year with endless possibilities! Saying goodbye to 2009 with a mosaic of my December challenge. The best thing I did for myself in my art practice for all of 2009! I highly recommend a personal challenge for yourself that makes you move out of your normal practice.

I've got ways I want to mount these in duos and will share that later after I get a couple of them done. I thought it would be fun to start 2010 with a give away. This is a small 6x6 assemblage of deconstructed pieces that I did last year, or geez, maybe the year before - anyway - an old book cover glued to the frame of an old light box I made once - the book cover is painted with acrylic and then I collaged pieces of another book cover I made for some poems of mine years ago - I believe there is beeswax also - it's all tied up with some wire from yet another project when I was doing alot of assemblage. If you would like to be included in the drawing, which I will do next Saturday, January 9th, then please leave a comment! Let the games begin!
