back from the 'in between'....

I picked up my painting tools again today. I really had to force myself to go out into my cold damp workspace, but out I went. I started by cleaning up my sewing mess - OMG! I'm not one to mind a mess, but this was off the chart - then I started looking at the pieces that have been drying - most of them needed touch ups, so I went into that mode - moving from one to another and finally settling on one little piece that just didn't have it going on anymore and found my way back in - the photo below is how I left it this afternoon - as I was turning out the lights, I realized it still needs some tweaking - it's better, but not quite there yet - it is mixed media on wood, 10x10...

the painting below I finished a couple of weeks ago and felt it was still okay, again, 10x10 on wood

then I had a nice surprise in the mail today - my friend Lynne Hoppe sent me a tube of paint she didn't think she would use (I'm so grateful, thank you Lynnie) and also inside the package was this wonderful painting she did - she works very small in moleskin books and used books - it's only about 3x4 and just wonderful - she does mainly faces, but also fanciful objects, animals and other magical things - this little guy is now attached to my easel and will be my special guest for awhile - definitely check out her blog here.

We are very soggy here but it's going to get much colder again - cups of hot tea back on the drink menu.

Love the knee and spread of the first one. You are developing quite a collection for a very good showing.

I'm pleased you braved the cold because these look good. Winter light seems to flood the first one. I'm imagining your arms moving really fast to keep warm!

This seems to be a common plight for those of us who cannot afford a large, well-lit, warm, sunny studio space. But we keep on chillin'. No matter what the circumstance, you always produce exemplary work.

thank you Maggie - you are right, I've got some paintings for sure - it's like a small army and this is base camp :)

good morning Annie - LOL, not much moves very fast any more - bundling is the best I can do - of course then movement is even more difficult xxo

Always interesting to see you working, Jeane. You need some kind of space heater!

they only complained about the cold momentarily and then we went on to speak about all sorts of life stuff while I pushed paint xxo, thanks Lynnie

good morning Mr. Berger and thank you - actually I do have a space heater, but it's like heating the outdoors because I have so many knot holes and gaps between the boards - very good in hot weather! just another month or so of real cold :)

thank you brbulka, so glad you came by :)

hey Daryl - hope you are staying warm, glad you like the header - my only attempt in 2011 at anything related to a domestic chore, sewing xxo

I really love what you are doing with the stitches. It suggests to me a connectivity between three-dimensional and 2-dimensional art. Reminds me of Shelley Jackson's Patchwork Girl. A hypertext story that suggests Marry Shelley made the monster. The digital text is a patchwork.... The idea that thoughts and ideas can be "patched" together into a uniform whole.

intriguing how you're incorporating stitching into your work -- reminds me of tracks, navigational marks on a map? Afterall, it's all about the journey, isn't it? Good luck battling the cold and damp -- we've got about 60" of snow here in New England!

good morning painted lady, like your take on the stitched work - for me it's trying to keep the pieces of my life held together, albeit sometimes only by a thread :)

hello Kelly - it is about the journey!yikes, that is way too much snow! :)

The stitching is completing a robe, a shroud? Something secret! I love the mysterious in the new work...

Wonderful abstract with wonderful textures and shapes and tones very suggestive. I like.

good morning Lyn, yes, stitching my life together, albeit a bit rough xxo

thank you Leovi, so glad you stopped by :)

I really like your work. It reminds me a bit of mine, so I relate very well to what they are about. I also jump in with both feet and let the work take me where it may. I am iced in here in Texas. We are not use to 8 degree nights. Good thing I am stocked up on art supplies!

hello William, thank you so much - I checked out your video and am amazed at how you use cement - so interesting, thanks for coming by :)
