I'm not surprised - it's just reaffirmation - my color palette - I spent the winter months experimenting with colors I usually don't gravitate to - reds, greens, blues - I liked them, but..... - I'm back in a rhythm now that the weather has turned a wee bit warmer - not thinking, just doing - without intent, thought, plan, etc. - and here they are again - my colors - raw umbers, burnt umbers, whites, blacks, yellows - and of course gray! can't live here in the Pacific NW without gray being a a major player - this palette really grounds me - I never get bored with it - I've already covered over some of the paintings that I did this winter - these colors are like my favorite old jeans, the scarf that I've had for over ten years, the old goodwill sweater that is getting it's first holes - I just love the used up and worn out things - they live the loudest...........
This is a painting I just finished this afternoon (I think) - my palette in it's earthy tones -

Tomorrow of course is the first day of spring - so happy Spring everyone! and I hope some of you get to see the 'big moon' tonight! I'm hoping to see it coming up behind our trees in the back.

I havent been over for ages Jeane....you have been creating some amazing art! I loved scrolling through your blog and taking it all in.
Happy Spring to you too.
Jacky xox
Nice work! Was just across the road checking on tonight's big moon. It's a very bright moon, looking further away than I thought it would. The sea looks like brushed steel. There's a gorgeous smoky yellow moon halo in a frosty sky.
I sure know what you mean about a favorite palette. My favorites are the ones you like. Love your work!
I've recently discovered your blog and I check my Google reader everyday to see what's new. I really like this one quite a bit. Here is the sort of thing I do. http://davidtmillermuse.wordpress.com/
I think our palette chooses us. Or maybe its a mutual choice. Glad yours is back.
Isn't the longer day light juicy delicious?
Beautiful painting! Once again.
The question of palette is a fascinating one. I, too, believe that it isn't something we can force.
A few years ago I tried painting with my favourite colours, which tend towards cooler ones - blues and cool beiges - but damned if all of my paintings didn't turn out filled with reds, siennas, and yellows. That remained my palette for a few years, and has only now started to shift - though not at all consciously.
I adore your palette. (My attempts with similar colours always end up in disaster.)
Wishing you a happy and productive Spring!
I am intrigued by palettes. Here is Wisconsin, the long cold winters are blankets of snow under leafless trees all shadowed by gray skies.. Love it, but must buy bright bouquets for indoors. There's several tubes of paint that are drying up and I'm trying to use them before it's too late, but they just aren't working. Maybe their role is in the underpainting:) Happy Spring Jeane!
hello Jacky, what a fun surprise to find you here this morning, thank you - I'll have to make a visit also :)
super moon Annie, wow! your view sounds amazing - we were so lucky that we had a clear sky last night and got to see it come up through the trees in our back woods - really amazing xo
yes, that earth palette Jann - I think our color palette is us! a part of our DNA on canvas so to speak :)
hello David and welcome, glad you found your way here - I will definitely take a peek at your world :)
I think you are right Leslie, palette chooses us or IS us - and yes, longer days - hurray!!! :)
thank you Lynn - isn't it an interesting phenomena the palette thingy - color is so much of who we are and I realize it more and more :)
a very good plan Chris - underpainting colors - I do the same and then they give a very nice glow underneath your true palette :)
Such freedom you pursue - I love the concept of you cleaning your brushes and then finding the imagery within! Have just discovered your blog so will watch with awe! Cheers keep it up!
good morning Wyn and welcome, so glad you found your way here, thank you :)
I slept through the moon!
I love the colors..they soothe me..I think we all just naturally drift towards our truth..you certainly do..and I'm grateful for that!!
:(( damn! don't you just hate that Daryl!xo
I love the idea of 'drifting' to our truths Lyn - unconsciously moving without any force - seems so honest which is my focus when I'm working - keeping the work as honest as possible xo
I've just discovered your blog via the Inkhaven site and just wanted to say how very much I love your work - I'm not a painter but a printmaker, one who has currently abandoned printmaking for writing, but your work is EXACTLY what I most enjoy - thank you and I shall be back for a proper look in due course.
Hi Jeane,
I have seen the moon ... so wonderful, so big, so close. Always worth a sleepless night;)
You sometimes always return to your colors. Even if I try something new. Eventually, you come back to your favorite palette. one automatically set the right colors together. And one is satisfied. One feel safe, perhaps? But it is ok.
thank you Sandra, what a nice route you came by - Annie being one of my favorite creative creatures - so glad you stopped by :)
oh, the moon!, wasn't it just wonderful Petras! and I think you are so right, there is a somewhat 'automatic' choice being made about the things that are 'home' to us :)
Your earthy colors really speak to me. And even though you may be using a "limited" palette...there seems to be an endless depth to your work.
