I thought you might be interested in some of the other work I mess around with besides painting. One of my passions is mixing everything up - taking mediums I love working with and combining them - much of this work never goes to the public, it's a way for me to push myself and keep the work fresh......I had some raw canvas pieces (not primed), a block of pure beeswax and the need to take a break from painting for a few days - I also have a ton of wax sheets that I lift color off with when I'm painting - I save these for collage - so, I melted my wax in my crock pot, heated up my iron and started working.......none of this is technically correct, but that has never bothered me - I pretty much do what interests me.......
the piece below is oil, beeswax, wax paper on raw canvas - I heat the raw canvas up with the iron, dip the wax paper with the oil I lifted from a painting into my crock pot and adhere it to the canvas with my iron - then I'm off - more painting, maybe more dipping, scraping, just whatever....

here is another one..........

and another one........

who knows where these will end up - sewn onto other elements, mounted as individual pieces, or just stacked up in another stack - it's just fun and a good way for me to stretch - sometimes I come back and peel all the wax off and the canvas is pretty amazing underneath - options, lots and lots of options.......a new week is looming - make art everyone!

Well I am fascinated and TOTALLY stumped. I do oil painting & encaustic, but, even with some explanation and your pics, I have no idea what you're doing! The results are fascinating! I have so many questions! Because I love oil & wax.
don't be stumped Jann. I'm not an encaustic painter. this is just canvas dipped in beeswax and adhered with an iron. this is not a proven method, just something I've done for years and totally enjoy.... probably totally unstable, but that's not why I do it.
I understand this is not encaustic, not proven, just having fun and experimenting, but it's because of the results that I'm interested. Ironing wax (unless most of this mixture is oil) has a much different effect. You also mentioned was paper? Is that in the final result?
More inspiring work! Love that texture :) Thanks, Jeane! You make me want to get to my studio...
Such inspiring work Jeane!I love your gung ho approach.
Great pieces, very free looking. Your poor iron!
These are fascinating! They stand alone, or - as you mentioned - could be incorporated into other pieces. Very, very cool.
good morning Jann, yes, sometimes the paper stays, sometimes I peel it away - it's really very random - basically I'm sitting on the floor and just playing to see what happens if I do this or that :)
definitely go to your studio Holly - don't delay - it's waiting for you to come and find yourself! :)
thank you Carole - actually the iron is just an old one that I've used in my workspace for years - coated in wax and pigment! :)
hello Lynn, thank you - it was a fun weekend playing with these elements - gave me some great ideas :)
I dont think there is really a 'correct' way to make art ... and I am coveting the first one
Don't you just love the smell of beeswax? These look great Jean. I really like the second one. I am back working with wax again too. Left the Yupo for another go later.
Sounds like great fun and important to MIX it up a little. You play well...these pieces look great!
It may just be play to you but to me it is beautiful..I always love your art..Thank you for sharing.
Katelen
Love hearing how you peel all the wax off and see what's underneath - all the marks created while you were doing something else. I love the smell of encaustic, but I never quite relax in case I burn the house down. Now I have a garden, I have another plan.
good morning Daryl and I agree so much - it's in the making that it becomes art xxo
oh YES! I love the smell of beeswax - it's a magical medium - that hot material running over the oil creating it's own world - just yummy - I'm repurposing some of my yupo work - another amazing material - now that I know the oil will adhere and dry after a very very very long time, I think I can have some fun with it in some different ways! xxo
good morning Mary Ann, how nice to see you back - and yes! mixing it up! how do we know unless we try! xo
you are welcome Katelen and thank you, so nice to see you here :)
it's like finding treasure to peel the wax away - I do the same with collage paper - peel it off and many many times I use the back sides for my work - oh, yes, your garden Annie - a huge work in process xxo
I feel so redundant when I say anything here, because I am always open mouthed in wonder. I am so in love with your work. I love your palette, the texture, and there is something so tactile about the work even in a digital image.
These are sensational - you really are a temptress!! It certainly makes me want to experiment more.
oh, Deb, that is so funny because I feel the same way about many of the blogs I visit, but I don't mind 'redundant' remarks, and it's just nice to see you here, thank you :)
definitely experiment MORE! Evie, it is the way! it's so satisfying to make discoveries :)
It's a very good idea to do what you wish...just look at your results! Mysterious, such great depth..magic!!
Hey, great works! Really remind me about Pollock!
good morning Lyn, yes, it is a good idea, thank you xo
hello juicejuice, thank you :)
