ousting the critic......
It's Friday and the weekend looms - We will spend a quiet Easter at home - a pleasant way to welcome a new season - this week has been very scattered and so studio time has been limited - I felt like sketching some heads - I love doing these - it's a very cathartic painting time for me - these are a staple in my art practice. Sketching these heads seems to ground me and free me up to paint with fewer negative thoughts jumping in to critique my work. These are little oils on board, 10x10's.

For those that celebrate Easter, have a wonderful one. Until next week.

Love these...I like the fact that there is a bare vision of features.
These are fantastic! Sad and bloodless gibbering ghosts rather than raging critics on an all-beef diet. Isn't that the truth of those pathetic whining voices in our heads telling us 'you can't'. What a brilliant way to exorcise them!
Jeane, Thank you for sharing this with us. When I look at your work you've posted on this blog and your website I am awed by it all. Each piece appears so strong and powerful. Your little grounding pieces are spectacular. How long have you been making little oils and when did you realize they were able to help fight the inner critic? This would make a great article.
Thoughtfulness, kindness, beauty--it's all there in those enigmatic faces. They remind me of you and your energy on your blog and in your markings.
Thank you for the good wishes! Have a great weekend too!

Love the looseness of these. Damn critic!
lovely work ! such great emotion...
Jeane, these faces are the oval egg shape of the season, a bit puzzling, but peaceful and quiet. The more I see of them the more I am coming into understanding. I appreciate your work and words. Happy Easter rebirth.
thank you Joy, so glad you stopped by and thank you for your lovely comments on my other posts :)
hello Kent - glad you like them and I'm so glad you stopped by......
good morning Carole, I've been painting little heads and big heads and medium heads for about 15 years - they have become a regular part of my art practice - sometimes they mean other things, but these are my little critics :)
thank you Melinda - well they are me for sure - sometimes I line up all the heads together and it is quite the picture of myself - xo
hello James, okay, I'm a bit slow and I have to say I don't understand your comment, perhaps some help here? and by the way, am loving the work you are showing on your blog - just fabulous!
exactly Don! thank you - so glad to see you here - have been following your amazing sewing projects :)
thank you Michele, so glad you stopped by :)
Happy Easter to you also Maggie and thank you for your thoughtful comment :)
I love these, Jeane, and think of them as spirits for some reason... Can you please come over and oust my critic, too? :)
Ghostly and gentle. They look a little sad. Lovely way to pass the time, and end up with these beautiful images.
WISTFUL, CALM, GENTLE, FRAGILE - they are jewel like and full of memory!
Nice / very good work / kisses
thank you Sharmon - too funny, I'm sure you have a very good way to oust your critics - however, sometimes they are right! we have to be selective, no?
yes, Jo, a little sad indeed, but they fit at that moment - thank you!
hello Rosie, yes, full of memory and bits of me now on the outside in the world xo
thank you Patrick, so nice to see you here :)
I'm with Sharmon. However, we'd get more out of painting our own critics . If we trap them on a canvas and expose them, maybe then it will be possible to sit down, really look at them, and have a conversation. Figure out what's going on.
good morning Carol - such a good idea, no? confronting the things that keep us from moving forward seems the way! so good to see you here xo
Interesting .. I sketch eyes when I need to think or to give me the impetus to get up and get out with the camera
I love these! They have your usual wonderful colour and composition sense and the scratching which I adore. They are deliciously ethereal, slightly mischievious, they remind me a little of Lynne Hoppe's creek people.
Look forward to seeing you do more heads. I am working on doing different Buddha heads these days so yours encourage me to experiment with a looser style.
oooo, eyes, of course Daryl! if we would only listen more closely more often, no? xo
Budda heads - interesting Zendot - so much symbolism there - thank you for your comment :)
Amazing ... very beautiful picture of the work has on the eyes and soul ... :-)
These faces have so much soul!
