sketching......

I thought I would share a little bit of my sketchbook with you today. Sketchbooks are places for many things - notes, ideas, thoughts, actual sketches, textile swatches, and the list just goes on and on - I don't journal - tried many times, but the pages just got ripped out and used for other stuff, so I put that idea away - one sketchbook I use, I do little sketches that take no longer then five minutes - sometimes shorter - this is really fun for me and is part of my art practice - the pages, as the journal pages, usually get ripped out and used for other things - however, I decided not to do that with the book I'm working in now - I told myself, "wouldn't it be nice to have a whole book of 5 minute works?" - YES, it would! - so here are a few to share with you - I have made a vow to myself not to rip this book apart - at least until I'm done with it! Will keep you posted.

I can't even begin to count how many pages I've ripped out of journals! I love to see how others use theirs so thanks for sharing!

Jeane - I am fascinated by the inner contemplations of other artists - it is really intriguing to see how things evolve - as we know how we do our own evolution but to see others is fantastic - and to have some commentary! Thanks for this insight - Cheers!

Hi Jeane, I really like the idea of warming up/working for 5 min. The preciousness of working in a sketchbook seems to evaporate, leaving you with authentic marks and shapes and etc. What you've got going on here is raw and fabulous. I get so hung up on the fact that it's in a book and it all has to be just so, which really messes up one's mojo. I've got a box, of simple paper mache from Michaels, that I occasionally toss in a 8x8 piece I've worked on. The 5 min idea is a good one, think it's time to pull out the box and have a go at shorter time increments. Have a great day!

Thank you for sharing your sketches -- I've hung a big piece of sketch paper on my studio wall. Every morning I randomly sketch on it for about 5/10 minutes. I find myself pulling from those sketches as I work in my studio.

When I was in school we had just such an assignment .. get a pad and fill it with 5 min drawings/sketches and we had another .. we had to get a small pad and do quick sketches of people we saw on the bus or subway on our way to/from school .. its an eye opener and a great way to 'stretch' creatively

you're welcome Liz-anna, and I'm so happy you stopped by :)

thank you David, do you think so? hmmm, well if you saw if close up, you might not think so, but thank you :)

hello Laura, thank you, glad you came by :)

I bet you have some fabulous sketchbooks Petras, thank you :)

hello Wyn, yes, we all evolve differently don't we - such a personal journey, but we can learn from our fellow travelers for sure :)

good morning Chris - oh, my, if you saw some of my books and how absolutely 'unprecious' they are and in fact all my work in that state of unpreciousness - if you go to my website you will see a photo of the state of my workspace right now - I put it on the home page for all to see :)

Judy, I absolutely love this idea and know artists who do the same thing - for me, I would start and never leave the wall - a book I can close and not be stimulated to keep working on it! :)

yes, I've done the people sketch one too, but I'm so isolated here now - I haven't been out in the real world for a week except to go to pick up work from the framers yesterday! egads Daryl, I have to gett out of here today!

hello Mercedes, thank you and I'm so glad you found my blog :)

Very cool! It's interesting to see mostly black and white as opposed to the paintings which have more color.
