growth spurt......

Something occurred to me as I was working this weekend. Something felt different. I was working like I always do. Doing the usual process of, "um, that's pretty good, um, not so much." Working on one piece, setting it aside while I waited for it to offer me a way to continue - picking up another piece and finding my way in - layers, scraping, painting, things appearing, things disappearing - all usual except one thing - I felt different - more relaxed, easier with the work - not so frenetic - more thoughtful - still pushing, but feeling at home while I did. Have I finally grown into myself and my process? I know this has been a gradual thing - this change has been happening on a level I wasn't aware of until this weekend - when I really knew - the work is still hard and I welcome the challenge, but now it's tempered with an inner knowledge that I have grown into. That's good. The photos below are of two pieces I finished this weekend.

mixed media on board, 12x12, 'She Couldn't Balance'

mixed media on board, 12x12, 'She Saw the Flash'

I have my roller skates on again this week!! Fast forward!

Lovely description of that process of feeling more at peace with the art-making struggle. I've recently had a similar experience, and it sort of comes and goes. Love these two pieces you posted!

Love this post - gives me hope - even if it's gradual - we grow in our process - only to grow again when we need to -- it's a beautiful description of the journey - and your paintings are wonderfully you!

Hope the feeling lasts. It's great when you feel you know where you're going, and that you have the skills to get there. You certainly were on form with these pieces.

Beautiful pieces.
Fascinating to hear how the process is changing for you. I like how you put it about growing into yourself and your process. Sometimes these deep, fundamental, slow-growing changes spring themselves on us unawares.

Love these last 2 pieces. Small, but powerful. I would love to see your work for real.

Sounds like the work has settled in!! I'm a big fan of monochrome, so these do it for me. I also love the in progress piece I see on the sidebar with the very dark corners.

This two pieces are wonderful. I've been touch by them. I have a personal story that fits with these two paintings. I wish I could have the money to buy them. The process you experience is very interesting. Wonderful work!
