near misses.........

Near misses - that's what I've experienced over the last two months -" yes, yes, I adore your work and yes, yes, I want to purchase"........"yes, yes, love your work, yes, yes, want to give you a show"........"yes, yes, yes and then oops, so sorry, not going to work out" - sigh. That's the way it goes and so go I. Plugging away knowing that a near miss is going to turn into a hit eventually! It's the way the world turns - yeses, noes, maybes, almost and then BAM! a hit! Eventually - But in the long run the hits are few and far between and last what seems like moments and then the times in between - just working - showing up, pushing edges and going forward with this personal journey. It's all good. The photo below is a painting that I finished a few weeks ago and is probably my favorite so far this year.

mixed media on board, 24x24, 'She Felt Her Pulse'

Had trouble shooting this - the yellows are really more pink but the camera insists otherwise. Friday has snuck up on me again and a totally jammed weekend ahead - can't even talk about the weather here - let's just say, we are coping as is almost everyone across the US. I know we will get a hit pretty soon.

Seems when there are a lot of misses, tends to be something big is on its way...

Misses are no fun but hits bring us ecstasy! Here's hoping you get hit soon!

So true, its about keeping going and not being tossed about by the movement of the world. And yes the odds are with you! Your work is amazing.

I can see why you love this one. It has a calm, grounded feeling, with some mystery, a great combination.

I love watching your art and reading your posts.
Lat night I saw a short programm about what the US heat wave. Would you believe here in France we're having the coldest and rainiest July for decades ? I'm regularly considering lighting a fire in our fireplace...

I know just what you mean - for every hit there's probably at least 10 near misses! Still proves you're heading in the right direction though I think?

I adore your work, and for what it's worth if I had a gallery I'd show it (but I don't - hope that doesn't count as another near miss ha ha!)

Love the color and the mystery of your piece. And rejections are the worst - sadly making us question everything -- shake it off cause your work is fabulous and I'm sure a big YES is on the way!

What a great explanation of what it feels like to be an artist! But we keep working and working, trying to be ready for that 'hit'.

Hope you are doing well, Jeane!
Hugs,
Brenda

oh, the mylar is so fun to play with Deb, thank you - oh, that's the problem, we are too cool, we are the only spot in the US that doesn't have sun - it's a matter of picking your poison I guess :)

oh, Chrislaine, that is exactly the kind of summer we are having AND we have turned on the furnace a few times because it is just too cold and damp, I'm so glad you came by :)

artangel, what a very nice thing to say, thank you - and yes, at least 10 or 20 misses before a hit for sure, but it is the way :)

Like you, the only way for me to cope with the crazymaking yes/no/maybe world of publishers, galleries and gig bookers is to just keep working. One day they'll hear that you found other successes. Did you read Rosie's blog posts on her Failure project? http://ruminations-and-rambles.blogspot.com/

Keep on keeping on, someone is going to come along and realize what I know that you are amazingly talented xo

I am grateful for the shock that ran through me upon seeing your header..you never bore!

Your favorite is easy to latch on to..love the puzzle of your work!

Jeane said...

good morning Lyn, oh what a wonderful thing to say - header is one of the 'dream babies' that I continue to work on - they fill a space in my art practice that nothing else does xxo

Melinda said...

This is truly inspiring, Jeane. I love the soft, flatness of the yellow against the textured edges. Just wow.

And, that "dream baby" header. Oh yeah!

You write so well about life as an artist. I agree wholeheartedly with you that it is about the work, and keeping at it, despite the feast or famine elements with patrons.

Your pulse is always strong from here.
