sketching with collage

I haven't felt very well for the past month and so my energy level has been pretty low. Thank goodness the Dr. found the problem and I should be back up to speed in about a month. As many of you know, it's hard to work without much energy, but I found a wonderful way to continue in the studio this past month besides prepping. I've been sketching with collage. You know all those bits and pieces you save for something but you don't really have a clue what? Well my stack runneth over and so I sat down and started collaging on board. A very good low energy endeavor. It's kept me in the studio, working, and I learned/still learning alot from it. I've started painting again, but am still intrigued with laying down these bits and pieces - the work has given me some unexpected jumping off points. I picked a few that were somewhat successful - there is no additional painting on any of these - just cut and glue and on the bottom two I did some mark making with graphite. Such easy cleanup!!!

Hope you are all enjoying these last days of August!

Hey Jeane,
Wish you all the best, and wish you will be fine soon. Give yourself a little time and no rush.(sorry my english)
The collages have your own style and are really great. they look really earthy.

I like the second of these - I think because it seems to have paused before the next thing. The others look like they are still on the move somehow.

Hope you feel restored soon. Ax

Oh, my, these are just spectacular. At least you can feel perky about how much these are appreciated by your viewers!

Yes- very much still YOU. I like the 2nd one too. I think because of the harmony of the composition and color palette. I keep saying I'll go back to collage...this helps give me the push! (But no rush). Thanks.

Jeane, I hope you are feeliing well soon. I can't begin to count the number of artists I know, myself included, who are dealing with health issues. What's this all about?

Your low energy has served you well. I too love the 2nd one.

Glad to know you are on the mend!
Resourceful you...these are great pieces and using from the odd mix stack is genius. A wonderful way to continue to work (low energy) and also to grow in a new and different way!
Summer warm weather was a bust here...hoping for some all day sun this fall.

LOVE your work. Happy to have found you and your blog.

Love these, especially the middle piece. So, does the energy help create the art, or does making art create more energy?

I love these pieces! I'm very inspired by your work. Even when you are not feeling well you manage to make amazing art. Take care of yourself.

I had posted a comment earlier, but it seems to have gone astray.

These are fantastic! I love everything about them.

I do hope that you're feeling better.

good morning Mary Ann, I'm glad too, thank - this has been fun and even though I've collaged over the years, this seemed different - because there was no additional painting, I had to tune into a different part of my brain and that was the good part xo

thank you Bonnie, I'm glad you found my blog too, thanks for coming by :)

fabulous question Christine - I would have to say they feed each other, no? so happy you came by :)

thank you so much Sarah - even baby steps push us forward I believe - just making the effort seems a positive thing, happy you dropped by :)

damn stray comments Lynn - cyberspace has so many black holes, no? thank you so much - happy you returned and slowly starting to feel better :)

Jeanne,
I so love your palette. It seems I am always drawn to the push and pull of colour making it all a bit obvious, I guess it is the textile background and the delight in ethnic fabrics.

absolutely loveing all this scrunchiness and good luck with the energy levels....i know what it's like to feel like your made of lead...the cause for me is an underactive thyroid which doesn't respond well to treatment...i always urge people to get it checked out if their batteries are low. good luck.

Jeane said...

good morning Janette, how nice to see you here - I love your color palette also - so many ways to look at the world :)

hello Kate, yes, the thyroid - a nasty bit when it goes wonky - mine is also difficult to regulate and my dose of med had to be changed - such a slow uphill to feel good again, but I'm on my way xo

I especially love the first piece as it has some of those signature colours of yours that I love, the rust, the black, some cream.

Hope you are on your way to feeling better. But as others before me have mentioned you have really surfed well on the ebb of low energy! You do inspire!

And I love the post earlier about how you prepare a board. I love working on board but tend to buy cradled panels which are so expensive. I will check out those home depot bins!

Jeane said...

good morning Zendot, thank you, and yes, I'm feeling better each day - I covet board with cradled edges, but the budget negates that right now - the new board I'm using is truly awful compared to what I had, so am searching another store this week when I make my trip out of here - so glad you came by xo
