I have a thing about edges. I love the edges of my work to show the depth and layers that are underneath - I never try to smooth them out - I leave them raw - Sometimes I lose these bits I love so much when the work is framed, but I know they are there. Even here, the edges are cropped off many times to even out the photo - if I'm working on paper, the clips make marks in the paint each time I turn it - I just leave those random marks - most times they are way better then anything I can make.
.....and lately? I've been working with more negative space then I have in the past. This was not on purpose, but just started happening. When you work into a piece as much as I do, it leaves very little negative space - but as all transitions, this started changing before I even noticed - I'm liking this new slant. We'll see where it takes me - I love a little change - it revs up the work and that is always good.
The piece below is oil on paper, 19x24, 'Pink Champagne'

Ahhhh. Love this "Pink Champagne." Exciting work!
It is so wonderful that you let the random marks stand--a true artist working with the environment of materials.
Hope you're cozy as the next storm passes through, using the indoor time to make storms of images.
Warm hugs from here.
I'm breathless from the title photo! This new piece is exciting as well...Pink Champagne has a delicate quality. Isn't it amazing how these things come up in paintings...grids, edges, negative space and curves to name a few...yes, more interesting!
First off, I love your new banner piece, just want to dive into the piece.
And 'Pink Champagne' brilliant! Perfect title too. Love what you're saying about negative space, especially where it develops naturally. You've helped me understand why I have such a hard time with it.
Simply lovely Jeane.
Your Pink Champagne piece is very striking Jeane and I really enjoyed reading about your relationship with the edges of your work and, the way you feel about them getting lost. I like the idea of them remaining exposed. penny
Nice .. soothing .. but those bubble are tickling my nose!
good morning Melinda, thank you! cheers! random marks are just the best!nothing tricked out about them, love that - small storm working its way through today and then the cold settles in for the week - brrrr xo
thank you Mary Ann - that header is buried deep inside another painting now! ha! apparently didn't hold up for some reason - yes, the things that come up as we paint away - always something new to discover no matter how long we've been at it xo
hello Bren, thank you - and like I told Mary Ann, the header long gone inside another painting - yes, negative space, I'm finding it a very strong element and a bit intimidating :)
good morning Carole, thank you so much, happy you stopped by :)
me too Betsy, but alas, sometimes they become tucked inside the frame - sigh, glad you came by :)
Cheers Daryl!!a very good thing for these cold nights xo
