How do transitions niggle their way into our art practices? I have been thinking about this alot lately. It is obvious to me that I'm experiencing change in my art practice and I wonder how this begins and what triggers the transition. My work is becoming more sparse on the top surface, but much more complex beneath - I'm still painting with my darker palette, but more and more the work is shifting into more ghost like images beneath the surface - lighter colors on top - it is still very much me but with a bit of a different voice - I'm shifting between the two palettes quite unconsciously but landing more and more in this newer vain - I'm enjoying more of the mystery in this newer work - I'm loving this new exploration - new edges to push - I love that this transition chose me and I didn't choose it - I'm wandering this as an explorer which is exciting to me.......

I love this new "ghostly" palette. It's delicate and beautiful, much to my sensibility. I am coming to realize one of the things I love most is texture and it's definitely here.
And I love your description of the process of transformation. As I read Peter London's book and process it with all the other thoughts I have about art, what you say makes perfect sense. When we know the language of paint, as you do, and paint from a deep inner place, exciting and surprising things happen.
Thanks for showing us how this works!
It is fascinating to find your direction changing. I am at present moving to abstract after years of represenational work. Don't know how it came about but it's interesting. Love you image and the depth of layers.
yes! the transitions choose us! that is it, jeane...
xoxo
I'm loving your approach on this. I especially like the darker under the light. Very interesting and suggestive of mystery/hidden information. Love the light!
Hello Jeane,
If I have seen your work on my sidebar I had to come forth immediately.
This is a very wonderful picture. So soft and light - like milk and honey.
really stunning.
xx
Soft and sweet ..
good morning Carole, thank you so much - when I was younger, I wanted transitions to happen quickly, but now I enjoy the easy slide into the change xo
it's so interesting isn't it Jo! the changes that all of a sudden show their faces, but maybe it isn't so sudden - I can line up work that I've done over the past year and see the transition coming as it peaked its head out in many ways xo
Hi Lynnie, I think you are the queen of transitions - you do it so gracefully xxoo
thank you Melinda, I like the light too!!the underpainting/underpaintings are very complex and layered, but just whisper their presence - yesterday I actually tried to force my old palette to see what would happen - very contrived and unsatisfying - I just wanted to check and now I can just flow with this lightness xo
hello Petras, thank you so much - milk and honey, what a beautiful thought xo
hey Daryl you snuck in while I was commenting - yah, soft and sweet, so not like me!!!! ha!!! xo
Like you, I'm fascinated to see or hear what emerges. Looks like you're in the middle of a fine adventure.
very exciting to see changes in your artistic development. I like your expression "the transition chose me...", that's the best thing to happen!
Your work is brilliant.
good morning Annie!! yes, I am in the middle of a very fine adventure - it's such a good place to be xo
hello Sue, thank you so much, so happy you stopped by :)
Peeking around, over and under the layers seeking magic.
Never disappointed, whatever the palette.
Love the whispering,,,
good morning Babs, thank you so much, gotta love a bit of mystery, no? so glad you came by xo
This is lovely.
I can relate, my work is in transition too. It is exciting and I wonder what comes next? :-).
xoxo
good morning Annie, isn't it exciting to have a diversion in direction, thank you so much and happy you stopped by :)
I think maturity adds reflection to our practice and this is particularly true during transitions and on the edges of our lives! What an adventurous journey it is - Merry Christmas Jeane and joyful transitions in 2012
hello Rosie, I think you are right on!! maturity is our friend and does allow a more complex art practice - Merry Christmas to you also Rosie xo
i am excited to see what will come of this challenge and new direction. very beautiful so far:) happy thoughts and wishes to you, jeane! at the end of this year and through the next:)
Gorgeous painting and such a fascinating concept to ponder. How does change find its way into our process and our work. Food for thought.
good morning Laura, thank you so much and a very happy holiday Season to you xo
hello Seth, thank you - it is food for thought isn't it! Some act on it and others don't - that's the part of the equation that interests me xo
