lights out.......

It's been dark in my little work shed for the past week - energy has shifted from painting to Christmas and all that that brings - it's the same every year - I tell myself I will work through the holidays no matter what! because it's just too hard to gear up to start again after any downtime. sigh - I had to run into the studio to grab a few things this afternoon and it took every bit of energy I had to walk back out again! I wanted to sit down and work so bad - the sun was out, projects lined up in progress, an especially almost finished piece on the easel - but walk back out I did - I have a sense I will be working tomorrow if only just a short while -

Before I post this and slip back into Christmas mode, I just wanted to share a little phenomenon I have run up against at least once or twice a day for the past two weeks - there are women of a certain age who carry handbags that contain at least 50 to a 100 compartments - you have to understand I am of the 'black hole' bag group where you open the bag and just drop things in, they land at the bottom and are retrieved  by feel in a snap! but basically I keep the CARD in the ONE side pocket for quick retrieval - so when I'm waiting in a check out line and the little lady ahead of me starts unsnapping, unzipping, unfolding, each one of the hundred little compartments to retrieve the extra three cents and then refolds, rezips, resnaps each of those very same compartments before moving on, I have to take deep deep deep breaths so I won't yank the hideous brown bag out of her hands and hurl it across the store while all the people lined up behind me cheer!!!!   Serious??!! Just let the clerk make change, it's totally okay!!

The lights will be on again soon, but until then, enjoy all things holiday!

Guilty as charged but I didn't know the cunning little leather thing had all those placed to lose stuff when it first got my attention. I almost had buyers remorse when I started going through it but it was the first bag I bought in maybe ten years...I was due..now I suffer.

That shed has amazing texture..I wouldn't want to leave either..
I try so hard not to carry a handbag..I wear clothes that have pockets... memorize where the cash goes, the credit card(1) tissues, keys..I walk, everything's across the street in NYC!
Have a wonderful holiday..and hurry back to ART!

You have great discipline! That shed is a beauty and walking in, then out again, must be psychically painful. I'm glad that time will pass quickly and you will be back there again working, very soon.

Oh, the handbags! It's really bad when there is a woman who waits in line behind others, but does not prepare for her turn. Instead, she waits until the cashier rings up the entire purchase--and THEN (!) starts digging in! Puh! I am like Lyn. I put my wallet in my back pocket, carrying nothing.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas surrounded by your favorite people. Warn hugs from here.

It's funny but as I age I look at older ladies differently...I can see where I will go if God graces me with years....that will be all of us (God willing) and I think of the act as cute....she is out in the world living life even it is a slower pace....p.s.....she might be there to teach us patience (perhaps)
Merry Christmas and wonderful days ahead Jeane.

hmm, I didn't know there was a reason that I own a black hole bag. It's only a year old and I bought it because I loved it's look but sadly things do disappear. Just the other day my daughter was laughing at me for rummaging for so long to find something.

Hmm, while I was in Vancouver these past few days, half a bottle of vitamin C crystals emptied itself into the bottom of the bag.... Then my kombucha bottle had a little accident in my purse. I still haven't had the courage to clean it out. We could have a whole blog about purses!!

That could well be my Mom you were describing :-) My sisters and I get quite a chuckle out of our Mom standing in line ups counting out change. We laugh cause she is our Mom ;-) Have a wonderful Christmas and may your creative juices continue to flow freely in the new year!

Its amazing to me that people who have stood queued up waiting for a bus do not get their MetroCard out til they've gotten up the step and are in front of the card reader/fare box ,, then they proceed to look for their card ... GAH .. is it any wonder the buses are never on time?

Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!

Deb you made me laugh so hard!! - that is so true - my mom purchased one of the bags with a thousand compartments and she couldn't remember where she put anything and finally went back to the 'black hole' bag - have the best holiday ever :))

hello Lyn!!! I am becoming more and more a pocket girl - it's just so much easier - one card, keys and my phone! for longer days I still carry my 'black hole' bag, but it has much less in it - have the Merriest Christmas ever Lyn xoxo

discipline is the one thing I have come to realize that frees us, no? I push through the things that I don't want nagging me in the back of my mind so I will have the freedom to do the things I love!!!! discipline is the gift that keeps on giving - ugh, the person who is not ready at the register, but has BEEN IN LINE FOREVER!!!! I'm with you and Lyn, the pocket thingy is a pretty cool way to go....so looking forward to seeing what you come up with in your work next year!!! Merry Christmas Melinda xoxo

Oh, Karin, you have a much bigger patience button then I do for sure - I think it's cute for about the first minute - wishing you the merriest of Christmases - hopefully we can talk soon, xo

oh, Carole, between you and Deb, I have laughed so hard this morning - there are definitely disadvantages to the 'black hole'- I recently found an ear ring and a receipt I needed desperately a year ago - I got rid of the other ear ring a long time ago when I couldn't find the mate, so I empathise with you! Have a very merry Christmas xo

hello Bren - I'm not certain why counting out the proper change is so important, but my husband is the king of holding up lines as he digs for the nickle he thinks the clerk might need - have a wonderful Christmas Bren, see you on the other side xo

Indeed, POCKETS!!! Annie, one of the best ideas ever - I'm becoming a convert but still go ga ga over a cool bag - trying to ramp down my addiction - the lights will be on in the shed for a bit today - need the unwind time!!!wound up like a clock at this point - need to disperse that energy - enjoy the holiday xo

shoot me Daryl!!! what is that? waiting in line, at a bus stop, in a FERRY LINE, and not one moment taken to get their money/card out!!! definitely a short fuse on this one! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND THE TOONMAN AND YOUR LITTLE BEASTIES!!! xxo

Jeane, congrats for walking out, exactly the same situation here....
As for the waiting at the register I usually put a stupid smile on my face with my eyes as empty as possible and grind my teeth....this goes also for the one taking FOREVER writing a check and then slowly, meticulously entering the transaction to balance the checkbook....grrrrrr who writes checks anymore?????
Peace, light, beauty and ♥♥♥

So difficult to turn the lights out and walk out...hope you find a little time here and there!
I juggle two debit cards and consider myself one of the most speedy checkout consumers of the county! These ladies need a label maker!
Happy Holidays Jeane to you and your family.

You didn't mention the other major factor that goes along with such a full bag--the weight! Women who carry that much stuff (whether in pockets or black holes) have a permanent, strap sized depression in one shoulder, and a definite tilt as they walk.

I was considering jumping from the black hole to multi-compartments camp, but you have given me pause. I had deluded myself into believing the compartments would allow instant access to what I wanted to put my hands on--while blocking the fact that it would require time to open and close all the extra flaps and zippers. UNLESS I included a purse diagram in one of those compartments.

I cannot bear the idea of stuffing things into a pants or jacket pocket. They would bulge, and I would lose stuff when I try to pull out only one thing. Perhaps you can recommend a good counselor to deal with my purse-onality issues?

good morning franswazz, YES! the eternal check writer!! I recognize the 'stupid smile, empty eyes and teeth grinding' - sigh - it's epidemic and doesn't look like it's going away anytime soon - extreme holiday cheer to you also, :)

a Label Maker!!! yes, Mary Ann - such a good idea - I want to be behind you when I'm checking out! have the very best of holidays Mary Ann - so looking forward to see what 2012 has in store for you xo

oh, Carol, you make me laugh as usual - actually?, if anyone could handle the bag of 100 compartments, I think it would be you! you have special abilities and they are duly noted - I'll take the pocket bulge as opposed to the saging shoulder - age has helped me eliminate many things that I use to think were essential - I hope you gearing up for a fabulous holiday and ready to jump into 2012 with your usual over the top energy!! xxo

I am in the same boat with my painting, but I will be working again Monday and perhaps even a little today. I needed the break and I am ready to get back to it.
Happy Holidays!

Aaah,yessireee!
Recently left my wallet in a store.
Never did that before with my black hole bag. Was trying to downsize, using a smaller purse, but the danged wallet didn't fit well. Having removed the wallet to get my card and be 'ready' at the check out, I walked away leaving said wallet on a shelf.
I am thanking God for the honest person who dropped my wallet off at the police station across the street, with money, and everything else INTACT.We were at dinner and the police called me. "did you lose your wallet today?" I had no clue until then.
Back to the Black Hole Bag immdeiately!

The shed thing: Yep, I have a half finished clay piece screaming at me,,,.
Is it January yet?

Merry Christmas Babs - omg! close call! what wonderful generous people to take it across the street to the police station - the 'black hole' bag has its advantages! xoxo

Another Black Hole Bag here .... with a divider down the middle. On the one side it looks like the bottom of a bird cage because everything collects there from restaurant mints, receipts and pens to packets with purchases I've forgotten i even bought. The other side is where I keep the important stuff and I know exactly where to find it by feel.

Everything of the best for 2012 Jeane and wishing you the most creative year yet!

good morning Robyn - oh, a sister of the 'black hole' bag - the single divider sounds like a good idea so the two worlds don't collide - hope you had the best of holidays - I'm a devout follower of your tumblr site xxoo
