I have knocked out close to 20 pieces on paper in the past few weeks and I was DONE!!! Out of the 20 pieces I was able to resolve about three of them and the rest are waiting their turn to find out what their fate will be - resolved painting, fodder for collage, steps to other paintings, etc., etc., etc. When a person is done, it's time to switch gears. Bees wax seemed a good choice. I heated some up, pulled out some rice paper, an old board and loaded my little torch - exactly what the doctor ordered!! Bees wax is so yummy! You can glob it on thick or just glide the wax brush over the surface - I grabbed my scrap box and added bits from other projects that I've deconstructed. I was able to burn foam core, muslin, paper, netting and a few things I didn't recognize. The piece below pushed me to another one on canvas that I finished today. This feels like a good direction for awhile. Using what is laying around the workspace - something very satisfying about that.
mixed media with bees wax on board, 31x13.5, 'She Let Out The Clutch'
Hope you are all busy making art. January is almost over and that means we are heading out of the dark/cold. It gives me hope.

Great choice on the bees wax and using the bits lying around...a definite letting out the 'clutch'! I grabbed the oil base wood stain for a 'what if'. Art making is such a ride....enjoy your weekend and yes, January almost gone and I've noticed just a little more light!
This piece is yummy! I love how you know when to change gears.
My you've been busy! Is your studio feeling warmer with the melting wax going? "She Let Out the Clutch" is taking you for a ride.....one that looks like fun!
Have you noticed how much lighter it is at 5pm now? Soon it will be warm again.
Great title!! Looks like a bit of a new direction. There's a sense of age to this piece that I really like. Ax
Very satisfying to recycle materials and stuff lying about - I like the analogy of changing gears! I can think of some others like speeding ahead, slowing down etc etc I find it so useful Jeane that you always put the sizes of your work, so many artists don't - it gives me a much better feel for the piece - I like this one a lot
wonderful piece, you blend your elements so beautifully. Burning stuff and dripping in wax, sounds like fun to me, I've not tried either as yet :-)
Wonderful piece, love all the goodies you put into this... very inspirational!
Delicious work....I'm a lover of beeswax too, but have not ventured into using it as you do! So many possibilties....so far all I've done is dip the paper in melted beeswax in my electric wok....sound like i need to procure a torch...would a heat gun work? What beautiful work you are making!
good morning Mary Ann, you say it so well!! absolutely love the idea of the 'oil stain' and asking 'what if' - shaking it up can reveal the most amazing things, no? xo
hello Carole, thank you - as soon as I hear myself sighing when I walk into the workspace is usually a good sign to change it up!! xo
I have noticed the light Carole - it's my game I play with myself each winter - checking the time of day when the light finally fades and we are up to 5pm now!very encouraging :)
Hi Annie, thanks, I love that look of age also - I have never been that interested in sparkly new - I like a bit of history with an object - my fav work clothes are almost thread bare and are the most comfortable clothes I have xo
it's very satisfying Rosie - when I toss something into the pile of 'maybe laters' I sometimes question my reason, but when I start working like this, I'm so happy I kept stuff - love your clutch analogies xo
hello Bren, yes, the burning is very satisfying to me - it offers a wonderful texture and color and the idea of manipulating the material before applying it to the main surface creates a different place to draw from :)
hello Deb, thank you, so happy you came by :)
Hi Missouri Bend, the torch I love - I can see that a large heat gun or torch for larger work would be amazing - don't know why a heat gun wouldn't work - best way to find out is try it :)
I am loving how your work is evolving .. so loving it ..
Somehow my comment got lost--Maybe it was my feeble attempt at humor. I wrote that I really admire your, er, drive with this piece.
Of course, I'm loving this because of all the different ways you work with your materials. And then, BEESWAX! Yum.
Now, watch those sharp turns, but keep traveling the road...
I always enjoy your art..It is always so full of texture and depth.
Waiting for the light and the tiny sounds of plants coming up from the earth.
Katelen
hey Dary!, thank you - you have been around for alot of transitions, that's for sure xo
too funny Melinda! yes, beeswax, just one of the yummiest things on the planet...it offers its own unique challenges and I accept! watching out for the sharp curves!! xo
good morning Katelen, thank you, nice to see your here, hope all is well in your world! :)
I am in love with this piece, it is beyond wonderful. I think I need to get me some bees wax :-).
xoxo
hello Annie, thank you and yes, having a bit of bees wax around can be a very nice change up!! :)
Jeanne, I honestly think you are the Queen of Inspiration - this piece is so cleverly created and I wanna be like you LOL!!
I am amazed at the quantity of work you are producing right now and I envy you your intuitive process. I can relate to the cold too. I have abandoned my studio for the dining room table as the studio was so cold the windows were frozen over on the inside. It hasn't been so cold this winter and hopefully I won't be deposed for long!
hello Evie, as nice as that is to hear, I think your power is in yourself because there is no one like you and your are the only one that can put your creative voice out there in its own very unique way - so important :)
oh, my Deb, your studio is very cold! ice on the inside - brrrrr! I'm not warm, but I can still work, thank you :)
You are so good with texture! It all looks so organized, but not. If I tried this type of texture it would be a blob. Yours flows to make it fine art. Such nice work!
good morning Lisa - thank you! texture is the thing I love the most - not just in my art, but in all things - I have been drawn to any objects that hold history or patina since I was a young girl - our lives gather layer upon layer each year we live and it has always been the center of my visual world :)
