I've just begun the work on this piece - it's been leaning against the wall for the past month and I've cleaned a boat load of painting equipment on the 36x36 panel. I did the first coat of wax and oil yesterday and then came in today and started loading my white onto the painting - I hated to stop this afternoon because this is just so much fun, this part of the process before the editing starts - I use pretty small tools and like to work a small area, then move to another one and so on and so on and then stand back and see what's developed. I then start the mapping - connecting the dots so to speak or at least what appear to be the dots at this early stage. Thought you would like to see the middle of the process - this will have to dry for a couple of days and then I can work some more on it. The first photo is of the piece as I left it and then the rest are detail pics of some of the areas I like right now.

My cup runneth over right now! I have learned something that serves me well and that is, when it is quiet and there is nothing on the horizon, then that is my time to PAINT!! I don't worry anymore that I won't sell one more single painting or have another show, or anything else. I have found that those opportunities come if I keep working. That's what I've learned.
I thought January looked pretty empty and thought, oh, boy, I can just paint for 4 weeks. Uh, no! When I know things for sure, will let you all know. Until then, paint!! Just paint!!

Wise words Jeane, I have found getting back into the swing of things difficult this year so today I went for a long walk, a swim in the ocean and have spent the day in the studio sorting out work, making a few bold changes here and there to last years paintings and already things seem clearer.
It is lovely how that works....keep painting and the opportunities will come. Today I took 12 paintings to a gallery in town after the owner asked if I could fill some wall space for the month! Here's to heaps of opportunities in you future.xo
always love to see your work in progress. and such wise words, it is all about doing the work! love your latest banner picture. that peek in the window is very tantalizing!
Wow! Can't wait to see how this will evolve. I know that means that I might not recognize it, but I learn such a lot by watching the steps. The thought of that for you - just painting for 4 weeks!! Ax
I continue to love seeing and hearing about your process! Gorgeous detail shots.
love the new header shot .. and the work in progress is evolving ..
Yes, it's hard, when everyone else is half-asleep, but that's exactly the time to sneak off and work.
good morning badlydrawn, oh, I think you state one of the things we all face and that is 'starting' - just starting seems to be a stopping point for most of us - sounds like you've found a way back in to do the work, good luck and so happy you stopped by :)))
12 Paintings! Carole! that is a hunk of work! congrats! and now you paint, no? Just paint - yes, hopefully opportunities present themselves - I've done my knocking on doors for the month and now I can paint!!! xox
that peek into the window is looking into my studio from the road that runs up the hill in the back of town - it was one of those cold clear days and I was restless, so grabbed my camera and headed out to clear my head!! thanks Carole xox
hello Annie, thank you - yes, just as soon as I think those weeks will be for hours of painting, then, oopsie, life jumps in makes decisions that I didn't even see coming - it will be hard to leave the painting alone today, but I've got another deconstruction under way that should keep me occupied xox
many thanks Amber, I love working in the small sections at this point and creating little maps and then comes the job of hooking it all up, no? :))
Hi Daryl, thanks, I did a bunch of shots into building windows and was amazed at what I got - I didn't know until I got back to the computer that I could actually see anything - surprise! xoxo
thanks for adding 'it's hard' DJ, because the truth be told, some days painting is the last thing I want to do, but paint I do and I have never been disappointed for showing up and smearing paint around. the many ways I find to divert - I used to head for the woods or beach, now I check my email, text a friend, make another cup of tea, stare out the window, arrange things, grab my coat and head out with the camera, but eventually I end up in front of a surface with palette knife in hand and do the work :)))
I love seeing your work and your creative process. I'm itching to get some new painting projects started but it's been hard to find time with a new puppy in the house. With a bit of luck I might get to bust out the paintbrushes this weekend.
Great close up on the details...it all has to work together and that is the dance!
It's an energy thing...will be waiting to read about a possible new adventure on the horizon!
good morning kathryn, thank you - oh, those little energy balls called puppies can totally destroy any sense of schedule, no? hopefully you will find yourself journeying across some sort of surface this weekend, good luck :))
hello Mary Ann, yes, working together - oil paint has taught me to be more patient - drying time slows things down and I have to take more time with each painting and that's a good thing!! we journey on friend!! xoxox
Morning Jeane - love hearing about your working process - happy painting days!
good morning Rosie, thank you! hope your creative days are full xo
hello Jeane,
i like it very much your details. love love love the scratches. I also want to try it. I'll show you then.
greetings
hello Petra!! thank you - oh, yes, you must try it!! I'm loving your work this past month on your blog xo
Getting right into the art process without any obligations in sight.... that is indeed precious time for an artist. The earthy detail images could be several paintings .... each making my heart race..... the third image especially. I love reading about the creative process so even when you say nothing much has changed I still feel inspired by what you share.
good morning Robyn, it is isn't it Robyn, just painting without the distractions of all the other parts of the art world - it's the purest part and the thing that feeds me and keeps me balanced xox
