Friday snuck in....

Yep! It's really Friday! I didn't even see it coming, it must have snuck in the back door! sigh

It's been a week!! After many bad painting days (well not really bad, just not any good work) I finally hit a streak and turned out several new pieces. I thought I would share with you something I've been adding to some of the new work and that is text on the surface. There is usually text under the surface but it has to make sense to me to keep it on the top surface. The cold wax allows me to carve back in days and weeks later - I love that option. Although it is not completely legible, it is pertinent to the painting in my eyes. This is really fun and very zen like to sit and carve my stories.

The painting below I've reworked for over two months. You have seen some of the earlier incarnations but this is the final.
oil and wax on panel, 20x16, 'Her Secret Tunnel'

The guy who works in the restaurant downstairs finally took the Christmas tree out of the back of his pickup truck. I was a bit surprised to finally see it gone. It always made me smile when I saw his truck pull into the parking lot. I've had small delicate soft pink tulips on my studio windowsill the past week. I love to get out of my car and look up and see them in the window waiting for me. Everyday on my drive into town I pass a man along the side of the road who wears headphones and either plays an air guitar or leads an invisible orchestra with a roadside stick. Sometimes he has a bike but I've never seen him riding it. He pushes it.

The weekend is riding in, have a fabulous one!!

LOVE this! Been playing around with my own text and visuals this week. Generally making a mess, so it's interesting to see a piece where it really comes together. You've inspired me to keep going. Ax

'very zen like to sit and carve my stories' - that emotion is certainly carried thru -- it is very zen-like to look at your work!

Also love the stories that you see from your window!

When I spied this over at Flickr my heart gave a little skip. I'm so glad you didn't cover up the text. Thinking of the pink tulips on your windowsill and feeling happy.

I visit your blog and appreciate every posting, even though I don't usually comment.
This painting, ugh, I don't know what to say, I just wish I could see it in person. It has such mystery and power and beauty.
I am not usually a fan of text on paintings because I feel viewers pay more attention to the words than the images, but this works brilliantly.
Don't be so hard on your "bad" painting days. They led you to this!

good morning Lynne!! yes, text - for me it can't be random since my work is basically daily diary the words have to be part of my world at the moment, so for now they lay on the top xox

too funny Annie - words and visuals apparently on point for both of us at the moment - will be watching to see how yours manifest themselves and yes, definitely keep going!!! xox

thank you Sue, so happy you came by :))

hello Judy, thank you so much - oh, yes, my window offers so much in the way of life!! xox

oh, yes, Robyn, the tulips - they sit so hopefully and keep the promise of spring present even on the stormiest days - thank you xox

good morning Joanne, thank you so much and I agree, random text can create an expectation in a work that really isn't there so I usually cover anything I write - however lately the words have been so part of my everyday - this painting doesn't photo well and is much stronger in person for sure - so glad you decided to leave a comment!! :))

Love text in a painting...it always adds some extra intellectual content.

Beautiful painting and use of text. Just before reading the title the words "hidden secrets" came on my mind....

I knew Friday was missing something! It was you! I am a sucker for anything with text! And it can be so difficult to use well, so easy to overpower the image. I go back and forth on how to use it and how to get it on to my canvas.

This is a beauty and the text is integrated so well! Glad to see you following this thread! Always something new and exciting from you!

Oh! I like this a lot. The way you use the text is so perfectly you.

Hey Jo, thank you so much - a little bit goes a long way xo

hello Cerulean, it's a bit of a transition piece and I'm finding it very interesting - thank you so much and happy you came by :))

you made me laugh so hard Carole!! yes, text is a tricky bit - like I said to Jo, a little bit seems to go a long way - this text is very much a part of other projects in my life so is pertinent to my artwork right now - glad you like it xoxo

good morning Bridgette, thank you - it may be the only piece that has text or there may be more - I added some to an older work yesterday and it was exactly the right thing to do so we'll see xox

It took me to Monday to get here! I also like the text and I like that it isn't easy to read...perfect markings!

good morning Mary Ann - thank you!! I'm a bit on the slow side also this week - it seems I'm hardly away from the starting line but I know I've been working - sigh xoxo

I can just see people peering closely at your work trying to read those words, really adds to the interest. Love how you handle the use of text in your work, people will ask, I know they do me, and they want the work to have a story and the text to mean something. Beautiful.

Hi Bren, thank you - text is tricky, no? it can detract from the piece as a whole and sometimes the text only represents a moment in time but sometimes it is the right thing xo
